It bothers a lot of people that live up here. Most won't admit it in public.

History

The county was formed out of territory within Thurston County on December 22, 1852, by the Oregon Territory legislature, and was named after Alabama resident William R. King, Vice President under President Franklin Pierce. Seattle was made the county seat on January 11, 1853.

King County originally extended to the Olympic Peninsula. According to historian Bill Speidel, when peninsular prohibitionists threatened to shut down Seattle's saloons, Doc Maynard engineered a peninsular independence movement; King County lost what is now Kitsap County, but preserved its entertainment industry.

On February 24, 1986, the King County Council passed Council Motion 6461, "setting forth the historical basis for the 'renaming' of King County in honor of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.". Because only the state can charter counties, this change was not made official until April 19, 2005, when Washington Governor Christine Gregoire signed Senate Bill 5332 into law.

Due primarily to the advocacy of council member Larry Gossett, the County Council voted on February 27, 2006 to change the county's logo from a royal crown to an image of King's face. On March 12, 2007, the new logo was unveiled.

You guys need to read the history and put it in perspective, it may surprise you as much as it pisses the moonbats off....

The original King the county was named after was a major pole smoker...."Miss Nancy", "Aunt Fancy"..... "wife"....

The new one was a pussy chasing fucker......

Now picture the irony of a bunch of moonbats, left wing shemales in pink shirts and hardcore butch dykes with combovers throwing a flaming homo under the bus for someone who objectifies women.

Its really a beautiful thing to lay it out to a libtard, you can see the tears swell up and watch them run off to cry.

And now you know the rest of the story.

Legacy

King's tomb is located at the Old Live Oak Cemetery in Selma, Alabama, and is accompanied by a historical marker.

In honor of his inauguration as Vice President, the newly formed Washington Territory named King County for him, as well as Pierce County after President Pierce, in hopes of gaining speedy admission to the Union by currying favor with the new administration. Though Washington did not become a state until 1889, Pierce and King counties still exist. King County has since changed its official designation and its logo to honor Martin Luther King, Jr.

Well how can we vilify #14?

I've heard rumors about a fee for usage rights to the name/image but I've never seen proof of it, not that I've gone looking for it.

The logo change cost an admitted $600,000 and to ad to the insult they bought trash bags then pulled them from usage.

Don't forget to mention that many, if not most, of MLK's followers were into armed self-defense.  I'm sure someone here has a link to the monograph on the subject.

(Probably best to leave out Condoleeze Rice's endorsement on the subject, though!)

I know about the Deacons but they're the only ones who stick out in my mind. The Panthers came a little later and didn't think highly of non-violent struggle.
