Its too damn quiet!  Lets hear your votes!  Red Dawn is almost a given BTW

Death Wish 3, greatest case for packin a gun if I've ever seen one (especially his .475 Wildey magnum!).   And running around with the 30 cal machine gun at the "final battle" is pretty cool.

That would have been my fav...

I also love Platoon.

Also getting a nod, althought not a LOT of gun play, just one GREAT scene would be "Heat"

Another vote for Val Kilmer in "Heat".

I also liked "The way of the gun" with Benecio Del Toro, James Caan, and Ryan Phillipe.  The big gun fight was just plain rugged.  Nothing fancy, just some 1911's, a few shotguns, some small .38's, and lots and lots of bullets.

I would like to ammend my answer.  While I REALLY liked the gun scenes in The Matrix, they are pale in comparison to Equilibrium.

The movie is based on a Martial Art called Gun Kata.

You can see a clip of one of the fight scenes below.

Fight Scene

If you have never watched this movie.  Check it out.  The gun katas are awesome!

Define "Large Amounts of Gunplay"...

and

I mean, when dealing with front-stuffers, the definition of 'large" drops.

Although it doesn't seem to make much of a difference when dealing with single-shot breech loaders:

Still, I think for "gunplay" alone this has much to recommend it:

Yet another vote for HEAT....

I love the sound.  I used to turn it up so loud it sounded like a real firefight!!!  Unfortunately, that movie doesnt exactly help the image of "Assault Weapons" regardless of the fact that the M4s were Class 3 F/A.  Its still one BADASS movie though.

Theres just something about the way they dubbed in the sound for the rifles.  you can hear the brass hitting the ground and the echos sound pretty damn real.  I think there must have been a gun enthusiast involved somewhere.

I like Mosins too, so Ill give +1 for this flick.  Its kinda weird rooting for the Pinko Commies though.  Not to mention hands down the weirdest sex scene EVER.

Here's my picks.

  • Gunsmith Cats (for you anime fans)

  • Open Range (just one scene, but its a western)

  • +1 to Heat, Red Dawn and Blackhawk Down.

I vote for "True Lies".  One of my favorite movies.

While there wasn't a lot of gunplay I think the Departed should make the list... some "classic" scenes in there

I loved BHD, but I didnt like how they were carrying on converastions and shooting at the same time.  All in all a good flick, but not as real as HEAT.

A lot of the movies mentioned aren't "great" movies, they just happen to have a lot of bang-bang action.

I just watched Equilibrium for the first time the other day and was pleasantly impressed. It has a very liberty-friendly theme and was plain fun and exciting to watch. It made me cry, too. Seeing the puppy lick him after the mindless government goons slaughtered all the other dogs and seeing what was a mindless enforcer react to it and risk everything just touched one of my soft spots for stray animals. I value a puppy or kitty a lot more than most people, though that's not saying much. (There goes my internet tough guy persona.) I don't think I'd call it THE greatest, though.

I'd have to say that HEAT is the winner for this thread--great gunplay, but it's also an excellent movie.

I thought John Woo's films always had good gun play.  The HK movies, "A better tomorrow I" and II are classic, lots of 92FS action.  Hard Boiled and The Killer are also great, with The Killer being most oft thought of as Woo's best movie.  One of his US movies, Replacement Killers was pretty good too, especially if you like HK USPs, though this movie was not directed by Woo, but had the actor in most of Woo's movies, Chow Yun Fat, as the lead.

I also loved Heat, and Matrix was just plain fun, although when you see .223 shells drop from a VZ-62 Skorpion, it kinda lowers the buzz just a little

Underworld (both) have a TON of H&K USP porn and good gun play.. Not to mention Kate Beckinsale in leather makes me happy in between the shooting scenes!
