The more money they have the bigger the deadbeat, especially lawyers .

Used to do a lot of work for homeowners in the blue ridge area, they would take month long vacations in Europe and then refuse to pay on the contract they signed even though they were happy with the work done.

Notes and recordings.  When you talk to him, in person or on the phone (if both of you are in WA), turn on the recorder, and just say "I'm recording this conversation".  You don't need permission, but if you notify him you are recording, it makes it look good for you if you have to use it.

There is nothign like playing back someone's own words if they try to say they didn't say this or that.  "Oh yeah, I got this recording right here, and..."
