Rifle used in robbery for pizza and change

LYNNWOOD - A driver delivering a few pizzas was looking at a big tip Sunday night.

Unfortunately, it was at the other end of a large-caliber rifle.

Snohomish County sheriff's deputies say two masked men robbed an Alfy's delivery driver at a vacant condominium about 9:45 p.m. Sunday.

A restaurant spokesman believes the thieves had inside knowledge about pizza delivery.

"These people knew what they were doing. They probably worked in a pizza restaurant because they knew the drill," said Randy Thurman, director of operations for Alfy's.

The men ordered about $60 worth of pizza and pasta to be delivered to a condominium in the 15400 block of 35th Avenue W.

They knew how to order to avoid raising any red flags with a veteran manager late at night, even calling back to make sure the driver had adequate directions, Thurman said.

They also knew that the driver wouldn't normally carry any cash, so they told the restaurant they'd be paying with a large bill and would need change, Thurman said.

The driver knocked on the open condominium door and was met by the two masked men.

One pointed a large caliber rifle at the deliveryman, demanding the pizza and pasta, the $37.23 the driver brought along and his cell phone.

The men closed the door and the driver ran, Thurman said. He was not injured in the incident.

The thieves don't live in the condo, and surrounding units were being remodeled and were unoccupied, according to the sheriff's office.

That leaves police with few leads, said deputy Rich Niebusch, sheriff's spokesman.

Police searched the area using dogs but were unable to locate the suspects.

Thurman said he's never seen anything like this in his 20 years in the business. Monday, he warned his drivers and managers about the robbery, asking them to be extra cautious. Employees are encouraged to make customers pick up their pizzas late at night or if something seems suspicious.

Thurman hopes other restaurants will also heed the warning.

"They'll try it again. They needed a little cash and they needed to eat, and it worked," he said.

It will soon take $2,000,000 for a postage stamp so 37 FRAUD's rate pretty low, the crime is in deadly force, i don't care what their excuse is, hang them high.

I think anything larger than a BB is considered to be either a "high-powered hand-cannon" or a "large-muzzled assault rifle" when the news is "reporting".
