I appreciate the school's concern for their safety, but I know they would have been safe with me. I'd also know what the f*ck was going on and be able to explain what was going on and answer any concerns, as well as be there to comfort them if needed. The lack of communication really pissed me off.
I'd also have told them the truth about what had happened, rather than some BS story about the BG's shoplifting at the mall like they told my 4th grader.
Come Monday I'll definitely be having a word with the principal.

I never did understand lying to children. What does that teach them? That it's ok to lie? I understand that some things should not even be told to a child, but when they are old enough to question certain things, then I think they are probably old enough to be told the truth.
(I am not a parent and do not play one on TV, and I have not slept in a Holiday Inn Express lately)
What was the outcome of this? Did they catch the BG?

My point exacttly. Not only that, but how can you expect anyone, child or not, to trust you when they know you've lied to them.
And the lie they told was really lame. Oh yeah, they send SWAT after shoplifters all the time....
They never caught the BG, they assume he left the area.
When I went to pick up the kids, thay had me fill out a form for what child, from which teacher, my name, and I had to show ID. The kicker was, they did not check my name against the school files, at least not that I saw.
As I said, I will be having a word with the pricipal.
Oh, apparently 7-10 officers responded to the initial burglary call. Shots were exchanged, and nobody was injured. 7-10 cops couldn't hit 1 BG. Time to hit the range.
