I had to have my dog Chance put down today. On top of being old, he had several other problems that have finally just gotten too much for him to bear. He took his last ride to the vet today He will be missed.

Sorry Kooter! Losing a family pet and companion tears your heart apart. Here's a story for you if you haven't seen it before called the "Rainbow Bridge" to ease your loss:

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Bummer. Sounds like a new pup would be a good thing for you and the family. The kids will love it.

Sorry for the loss.

We're going to be facing the same thing I'm afraid. It's gonna be really hard on my wife when it does. Hard for me too when I stop and thing about it.

Bummer for the Kooter family.
Perhaps you'll have a new pup dog for the winter LCR meeting to bug Brown Dog.

Thankls for the responses guys(and gals). It was something that has been coming, it is just tough to finally say that today is gonna be the day.

As to a new pup, we have had animals ever since I met the old lady. No is the first time in 8 or 9 years that we have had no animals. I think we are going to take a break from them for a little bit. But there will be a new beagle puppy coming my way eventually.

Sorry for your loss. I have had to put down 4 dogs in my life and each one of them breaks your heart since they are such devoted friends and family members.

I have a chocolate lab that I love dearly. I've always been somewhat detached around critters. I look at dogs and cats as farm animals but my chocolate lab is almost human. I'm sorry for your loss Kooter.
