I don't know if I've mentioned her before but I work with this hag who is about the biggest liberal, socialist idiot I've ever been around. She's a mid-thirties divorcee, basically made it impossible for her husband so he filed, who has some strange ideas about most everything. Vehemently, anti-gun, anti-hunting, anti-US, etc.. Extreme enough that she missed half a days work when her ride left an off-site meeting early; she would 't ride in my truck because it "smells like explosives" and has an NRA sticker on it. I think you get the picture.

I have this meeting every Monday and she's one of the participants. A manger in another group that I'm in the process of helping build a AR is also there. Got a Yankee Hill catalog over the weekend and tossed in the bag this morning knowing I'd see him. So I show up 10 minutes or so early. He and I are sitting in the conference room with another woman and a couple of other men. He's looking at the catalog and we're talking FF tubes. The other three people kinda looked up when we started, woman asked a question or two, and that was the limit of their interest, back to what they were doing.

In walks hagzilla. Spots the catalog, and goes ballistic. 5 minute rant on why he and I are the cause of all evil and the rest are supporting us for not having reported us to HR and security. Now, I am ALWAYS very polite and courteous to this woman even though she never is to me. While she's running her mouth we put the catalog away and tried to get her to stop a couple of times before giving up and letting her run down. She finishes, insists I remember the catalog from the room before we can continue. (Guess the evil might rub off or something??! The guy I brought it in for tells her to grow up and puts the catalog on top of some of his other stuff. She insisted he cover it with something.) We have our meeting and I return to my office. So I'm working away when here comes the HR nazi. Seems hagzilla had complained about me creating a hostile work environment. We discuss the issue, she agrees to talk to some of the others, decides its not really a big deal and tells me to forget about it. Says she'll talk to hagzilla and tell her to act more like a professional and adult. Guess that didn't go well. Seems hagzilla is filing a harrassment complaint against the HR nazi, me, and the manager.  

I've been specifically told that I'm not in violation of any company policy by having gun related material in my office including a picture of my nephew's team of snake eaters. Seems one of the things she complained about was specifically my picture. Now I'm in a controlled access area (which shes does not have access to and has never been in to my knowledge) and it would seem my picture causes her daily pain!!!!  

Geez, I hate mondays!

Was told the other day that there had been complaints about me surfing "Gun Related Material".  I answered with "There's no difference between gun related material and FISHING related material" (which he is regularly looking at).

I'm way above lowering myself to her level. I'll probably just ask her if she's still having troubles getting a date. I'm sorry to hear that you are being harassed by hagzilla.  I work in a much smaller environment, 10 people, for over a decade.  Everyone knows everyone else very well, BBQ's, picnics, etc.  Occasionally, I have some AR parts delivered.  Maybe some spare mags.  Sometimes some ammunition from ctd.  One woman always asks me, in an accusatory fashion : "Is that a gun?!".  I've politely explained many times that is not the case.  There is a hagzilla equivalent wherever one goes.

Keep in mind that firearms and the parts they are made of are NOT illegal, therfore you looking at pictures of these metal parts should be none of her concern. Should you be able to prevent her from looking at a Birkenstock catalog at work just because you think the shoes are offensive? NO. You have done nothing wrong, don't sweat it too much.

Sorry you have to work with a POS like that. Maybe you should bring in a magazine of big fat women. Take it to the meeting and make a comment to her that she will NEVER be the "after" picture as in before/after....She sounds as if she needs some serious therapy. It sounds like she has made a hostile workplace for you. I would file an EEO immediately and document this incidents she has been involved in. Don't forget the people in the meeting room.
We have to bring the power back to our side. Don't forget to leave copies of Field & Stream around your work area. When she complains, make sure to note it and let HR knows how her constant barrage of complaints is adding to your stress as well as making your work environment hostile.

I work in IT security and frequently get tasked to investigations for HR, Corporate Security, etc.  I think you took a good approach to dealing with this lady by biting your tongue.  HR or corporate security won't care about your looking at "Gun Related" stuff on the internet as long as it doesn't interfere with its Internet "Fair Use" policy.  You are correct in your association between fishing, gun hobbies, etc.  Screwing off is Screwing off.

Bite your tongue with wackos like that and disassociate yourself with anything that isn't the facts.  Don't reference her personality, marital status, general wacko-libral crap.  It automatically makes you wrong..instead of her.

Anyway...I feel for you man.  Best thing you can do is pretend you are married to her and ignore her when she starts bitching.  That's what I do!

Well, that was fun. Sorry for the delay in updating but it was a very long and tense afternoon.

I had to go over and talk to legal about "The Incident" as the lawyer called it. My boss and our HR nazi went with me. We get over there and are directed to a conference room containing, HR VP, Chief Legal Eagle, my VP, another lawyer and a video camera. Pointed at the witness chair. Seemed pretty well orchestrated to intimidate. My boss immediately called bullshit on the camera. (I also made a comment that maybe I should call my lawyer) After a couple of heated minutes Chief Legal Eagle got up and jerked the power cord on the whole deal. End of discussion. Temperature dropped about  50 degrees in the room. Lawyer starts in about how this is an investigation of The Incident of 4/18/05 and slides this paper over and asks me to sign it. Looked like the fucking miranda act!! I refused which didn't go over well with the lawyer. Chief LE said get on with it and, "quit fucking around." The lawyer (female in a pin striped pantsuit) yammer around abit about why we were there (duh!) and what the possible outcomes could be. The "you could be fired" comment pretty well safety wired me in the pissed off mode. So she starts in with the question, "How many guns do you own?" At which point all hell broke loose. My boss actually said WTF kinda question is that? HR babe and her boss are going on about how you can't ask that, can we even legally ask that, etc..

That went on for several minutes. When things calmed down she went right back to asking more of pretty much the same which gotta her a couple of none of your business answers. I also asked her if she was even going to ask about my side of the issue. She said no and that it was all here waving some papers around. HR babe looks at her boss and said, "If you let this go any further I will quit and help XD_Fan sue the shit out of this company." So the HR VP, her, my boss, and the lawyer go outside leaving Chief LE and me sitting there. While they were outside he and I talked. He asked me what had happened before the meeting, during and after. We had a little chat about guns, why the catalog was there in the first place and he seemed real interested in the timing of things. During our chat every one else came back in, lawyer being extremely pissed off looking, and sat down. She tried to interrupt the last part a couple of times but subsided when her boss told her, "would you shut up and let him finish."

So I did. Lawyer said she had a few more questions at which point Chief LE said no you don't. He got up, motioning for the HR VP to follow, walked around the table, patted me on the shoulder (WTF? Kiss of death?) and they left the room. Things got kinda nasty between HR babe and the lawyer after the lawyer made the comment that if she had her way we'd all be fired. I started playing solitaire on my palm pilot to distract myself when my boss joined into that argument. After an HOUR of us sitting there Chief LE comes in alone. Tells his lawyer to get out, don't leave, I want to talk to you before you go home, and I mean don't leave with out me talking to you. After she left he tells my boss and HR babe they can leave it they want to he just has a couple of things to say to me. They stayed of course. Chief tells me his sorry for his lawyers behaviour and that he's going to "correct" it. (I'd love to have been a fly on the wall for that one!!!) Explains that hagzilla made some pretty damning statements about me and the other manager in addition to the harassment complaint. Then he asked me if I'd be willing to apologize to hagzilla and promise to remove all firearm related items out of my cubicle. I told him I thought that was a bunch of shit but if that was the best way to resolve I'd probably be willing to comply. Kinda sorta maybe. He actually laughed and said that's a definite maybe then.

So we all went home. I got home about 7. My wife said Chief wanted me to call him at 8. I called and he told me all was taken care of. End resolution is as follows. I and the other manager are not being punished, no entry in our personnel record, and the complaint is being dismissed without merit. hagzilla was to formally apologize (publicly) to me, the other manager, and the rest of the people in the group, failing to do so will result in termination. She is going to have to attend anger management classes and gets a written warning. Plus after the apology ceremony today she leaves for a two week suspension without pay!!! She's also being told that she has to make nice (or else) to everyone from now one. Her continued employemnt will be subject to review in 45 days. He said she would have been fired if the HR VP wasn't such a chickenshit. But he also thinks she doesn't have the character to actually jump through all the hoops and make the changes she'll have to make to stay on. He predicted she won't be able to make the apology without loosing it. We'll see at nine.

He also went on to say that one of the big factors was the fact that I have such a low profile politically at work. Guess they talked to just about everyone I work with. Apparently they all said really nice things about me. He also commended me on my professional conduct thoughout. He said he really made up his mind on everything when I so calmly told his lawyer that how many guns I owned was none of her business. He said I was the ONLY person who didn't say anything bad about anyone else. He said everyone else was busy circling the wagons and covering their ass while I sat and played solitaire. Guess the fact I was calm enough to twiddle my thumbs while the idiots danced really impressed him. He also told me he ripped his lawyer a new asshole for her "misconduct" and that she would also be around to apologize also. Albeit, in a much less public way. Seems she's a bit too militant for his tastes. Said something about her next review not being so good!


I haven't seen hagzilla car yet and she's usually here by now. Guess she got a real grilling too. I do feel kinda bad for her but I also recognize that she has brought most of her woes down on herself with her fucked attitude.
