I've currently a Barrett 99-1, but that seems to change every month.
The best 50BMG base gun is always a hot topic. I've had the RAP5100 (Iver Johnson), the ArmaLite AR-50, the Serbu BFG-50, the State Arms Rebel, and both the Barrett 99 and 99-1. I've also had the Barrett 95 and 82A1 and the Windrunner M96, but they just don't seem fun enough for the extra cost. If I was buying a 50BMG for me, I'd get one of the Barrett 99-1 package deals and sell off the scope and put a better one on it. |

Stokes- How much are one of those 99-1 package deals going to cost? What did/didn't you like the Serbu?

Those rogue waves are a bitch aren't they? A buddy has an Ar50 and he loves it. He wasn't shooting tight enough groups so he had it rebarreled. A 5 shot 2 9/16" group at 550 yards wasn't tight enough for him. I've shot the gun, it's pretty darn fun. |

I've only shot the Barrett M82, and it is a hoot! I think it kicks less than my Benelli. Well, it is a different kind of kick (spread out over more time = less perceived recoil.) I would love to own one, but at $7,000 plus, it seems really steep. If I bought one, it would have to be magazine fed. I don't really care for those "shell holder" type .50's.
I think SteyrAUG is talking about a Barrett Group buy over in the Armory/50 Cal boards.... He says the GB will include ALL models of Barretts..... |

I don't dis-like the Serbu at all. In fact, I'm quite fond of it. I just like the Barrett 99-1 better asthetically. The Serbu is great!
I really think the ArmaLite is ugly, and don't like the shell holders, as they just seem too cheap. I'm not sure on those Barrett 99 packages (I don't think they had 99-1s, but might be wrong), but I seem to think that they were about $3K, gun, scope, rings, bipod, hardcase. |
