I keep thinking that TX isn't too far to drive. Anyone else considering it?

Not drive but I am still thinking, hoping, wishing I could go.  I've been attempting to negotiate with my employer about getting a couple days off to make the trip.  So far it does not look real good but I'm trying.

How long would it take to drive?

I once drove there in 40 hours and was pretty wiped out when I got there. It is a damn long drive. Unless you are team driving and have a good, comfortable place to sleep in your vehicle, plan on at least an honest 4-5 days of driving and recovery.
