B-17 Flying Fortress just flew over my house about five minutes ago.  Jaw dropping beautiful.

It and quite a few other WW2 planes are here for "Warbirds Weekend" if you want to check them out.

I had a B17 and a B24 circle me on Miramar Naval Air Station Golf Course about an eternity ago.  They are thinkgs of beauty.

As an interesting point of reference to show some of the folks who look through this thread, the B17  was a heavy bomber in WWII and was considered a large aircraft back then.

My dad worked on the F106, a delta wing interceptor from the mid 60s through the early 80s, and it was a few feet longer than the B17.  Some of you may have seen pictures of the President's plane he flew, the F105, which was a little shorter than the F106.

They make 'em a lot bigger these days.

I once was able to go inside the B17 used in the movie, "Memphis Belle".  It's a lot smaller inside than what you see in movies and TV.  A lot smaller!

The Collings Foundation planes are probably what you saw. Their B-17G and B-24 are working their way up to Seattle (June 20-23)

www.collingsfoundation.org

I got to take a ride on the B-17 in Florida while there to see Columbia lift off in January. It was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience!

Here is a pic of the planes...

Cheers,
Chris

I just got back from the airshow and sure enough the B-17 and B-24 were from the Collings Foundation.  I took lots of pics of the aircraft and WW2 and Vietnam reenactors.  I'll edit and upload a few of them tonight.    However, I'm debating wether or not to show the close up pics of the nose art from "Dragon and Its Tail" since it, it, well, let me say that it had the full attention of every red-blood American male in the crowd!  The above pic gives a taste of how impressive these wonderful aircraft are, but no picture can possibly do seeing the real thing in person justice.

I thought about the checkout ride but at $400 I would have been in the doghouse for sure.

I will always maintain the that B17 is one of the most beautiful man-made objects in the history of civilization.

Those ww2 era planes are a thing of beauty.

I've been on the Sentimental Journey,  a couple B-24's and that spanish HE-111 that was/is making the rounds a few years ago.

All them radial engine jobs are cool,
not forgetting the Alison and Merlin powered ones.

IF money were no object, owning a Skyraider or T-28 would be badazz   (so would owning my own Mach1 T-38)(schwingggggggg)
