i see as low as 3.19 and as high as 3.78.  Given the wide spread i figure we're getting gouged.  If we weren't then i think the prices would be more uniformly high.

Just my luck the price is starting to go DOWN!

On Tuesday I topped off my tank (defined as putting as much gasoline in the car as possible.  This is about 2± gallons more after the hose automatically shuts off) and paid $3.19 per 9/10 gallon.  Today I saw the very same station sell for $3.09 Per, and a Rutters on I83 Northbound from York sell for $2.85 per.
I should have only added $5 to my tank and waited until the weekend to really fillup.

Oil companies are making profits because of high consumption. Little known fact: it costs the Oil producers about $4.00 to pump one barrel of oil.

I've heard similar claims.  Can you tell me where this information comes from?  Additionally, what is the cost of shipping, refinement and delivery to various parts of the U.S.?  These are all legitimate expenses which need to be considered, not just the cost of pumping the crude into barrels.

It seems to me that capping the price would be the wrong answer for a couple of reasons.  First, I don't want the government telling me how much I can charge for a product that I sell.  Second, if you cap the prices, that does nothing to fix the supply/demand problems.  capping the price would cause even worse shortages, and most likely the mile long lines at the pumps could become a reality once again.  I'm not advocating price gouging, and if you think you've seen it or been a victim of it, you should report it.  With any luck, those guilty of gouging will be fined and or prosecuted.  But, unfortunately I doubt that will really happen.
