So I took my 6 year old Lab out with us this morning to the great Arizonashooting dove hunt.
She's been hunting before. In fact I took her out last Sunday.  never shown any sign of being gun shy, usually stays within 20 feet of me.

About 6:45 she took off.  I don't know if a round going off over her head spooked her, or if she saw something worth chasing while I was targeting a dove.  Either way she took off.

Just about everyone there spend a bit of time helping me look for her, which I appreciate.  The wife and kids drove up from AJ, but no luck.

On the very slim chance that someone finds her shoot me a PM or give me a call, 480 358-0904

The kids are VERY unhappy with me.

I left a full bowl of water for her in the parking spot in the shade of one of the little trees, and one of the guys is going to check in the morning in case she went back.

I was going to put a sign up at the bulletin board at Ben Avery, but when I went by at 1:30 they were closed ?!?!?

Oh, her name is Hazel, and she was wearing her collar/tags.
Last seen around milepost 4 on New River Road.

Good luck.  At least you have dog tags.

Wow, that's terrible.

You might check with nearby animal control centers if you haven't already.

... One of the few times I ever cried as an adult, was when something very similar happened to me near Strawberry 10 years ago or so.

Leaving that bowl of water there without me just wrenched my gut. Was shooting too.

On a positive note, a DPS officer found my old boy trotting along side 87, heading toward home and I got him back a couple days later.

I hope for a similar ending for you and the family

Is the dog microchiped? If so then it would be worth informing the local shelters/pound so they can keep an eye out.

I think the wife has already listed her with the two Maricopa Co shelters.  You can do it online by typing in the tag number.
She was wearing her collar with Maricopa Co tags anyway.

I mostly wanted to just put the word out here in case someone went hunting in the area this morning and had a brown dog follow them home.

Oh man, that sucks.

Check craigslist.  I've found several lost dogs for people that way.  I just checked and none matching Hazel's description are up there, but you never know.

nice dog,I hope you get him back . that happened to me in 1976 in New Jersey and mine was a German short hair pointer named Buddy. after a week of looking and doing everything I could I brought home a German Shepard puppy so my 7 year old son and 5 year old  daughter would forget about Buddy . my first wife still blames me for looseing Buddy .

UPDATE

Hazel has been found.

Some folks were out shooting and riding quads up by New River Rd and 87th ave on the west side of New river road.  A rather thirsty lab barked at them but was willing to go home with them where she a) drank a whole bunch of water, and b) went for a swim in their pool.

I got a call this afternoon in response to a message my wife had posted on pets911.com.

Thanks to everyone for the outpouring of support and assistance.

Mark

Area she was lost in is
33.846788,-112.205257

Kids are going to be very happy when they get back from Karate. (they don't know she's been found yet)

Orcorvo, Yes, she is a Red Fox Lab.  Definitely a much different color than the more common Chocolate.

Glad she's back!

There's no dog like a lab - of course, as an owner of a red lab myself, I'm a little biased.

I bet the kids are ecstatic.
