2 accused of shooting at police

by Matt Culbertson - Jun. 4, 2008 10:27 AM
The Arizona Republic

Phoenix police arrested two suspects Tuesday night on suspicion of shooting at two officers in a marked patrol car, police said.

At about 10:40 p.m., one suspect in a Maroon Chevrolet Tahoe shot at two officers near 35th Avenue and Culver Street, striking the hood and roof of their patrol car, Detective Stacie Derge said in a statement.

The suspects, Ricardo Hurtado, 24, and Juan Beltran Nunez, 29, then fled the scene to an apartment complex near the 4300 block of North 53rd Avenue, Derge said. Neither of the police officers was injured by the gunfire, she said.

Police pursued the suspects, and the men abandoned their vehicle in the parking lot of the apartment complex, Derge said. Patrol officers then set up a perimeter in the area, and Special Assignments Unit officers and K-9 officers responded to the scene to search for the suspects, she said.

Both men were taken into custody, and one man sustained a bite from a K-9, Derge said. The men initially gave fake names and ages to police after being arrested, Derge said. Police also recovered the Tahoe and a rifle.

Nunez was booked on suspicion of two counts of aggravated assault, possession of dangerous drugs, unlawful flight and prohibited possession of a weapon. Hurtado was booked on suspicion of prohibited possession of a weapon. Both men had a hold placed on them for Immigrations and Customs Enforcement.

Okay it's been a long day.... someone want to explain the title of this thread?  I KNOW you're not anti-police El_Ron, but someone clear this up for me PDQ.  Thanks.....

Just shootin' the cops Americans wont

And I'm sure it's probably something the suspects said, but none the less need clarification.

I'm going to throw a guess out there..

One of the justifications for undocumented workers is that they do the jobs that Americans won't do.. add a little sarcasm, shake vigorously = Humor.

Thats just a saying McCain said awhile ago from one of his speeches. He said something about it was ok to have illegals here because "There just doing the jobs Americans dont want to do"So that kinda stuck with most people so now they use that as a figure of speech for just about anything thats f-up now.

Maybe it's just me, but in light of the extremely recent death of Officer Hite, the title just seems kind of offensive.  I know it was probably meant to be funny, but that's kind of a sensitive subject for many people right now.

If he changes it, great and thanks El_Ron.  If he doesn't, well I'll just have to figure out how to hack his password and change it for him.    (That's a joke... of course)

I find nothing humorous about the government approved invasion of scumbags.

Actually the mantra was ingrained among the do-gooders,bleeding hearts, pinko activists and do nothing politicians long before Dishonest John ever uttered it.

Thanks for the links Mak, we tend to forget the details amid the foggy flurry of shit mist. His story and the government's response was sickening when it occurred and it's sickening now.

RIP Kris Eggle.

I don't think it is funny at all, that an individual from Arizona who is running for president can be such an idiot to not see that a major crime problem exists here on the border of his own state.

It's a damn shame. I can't see how a person can get elected for president when he failed to protect his own people here in Arizona during a time of war! Anyone and their dog can walk across the border deviding his state from Mexico carring anything from rockets to a dirty bomb and he could give a shit less. That is just scary and one of many issues with this guy.

Please don't take this as a vote for Obama or Hillary...those two can forget about my vote. It's like they got Hitler's book on Socialism and preaching it step by step.

Okay so NOW I understand the title.  Forgive my ignorance... it's been a long week.  I agree with ya'll 100% about the "invasion of scumbags" as ya'll put it.  Trust me on this one since I see it every day.  This country is going to fall apart due to the bullshit, bleeding heart, tree huggin, duck scrubbin, lying dick-fer-brains that run this country.

We're going to have to continue to fight amnesty no matter who wins. Everyone should join www.numbersusa.com. It's free, and you can easily send faxes to our congressidiots. They do a good job of sending out emails whenever somethings coming up for a vote in the House or Senate. Stuff you wouldn't hear of in the normal news and may not even hear on talk radio.
