EDIT: I've talked to some people much more experienced in political activism than me, and they are recommending we DO NOT show up.

It will be too hard to get a large enough group at this late of a date.  If we show in small, numbers it will be used against us to show our cause is not popular.

It will be better if we do not show to this one and have our own protest scheduled on another date, as we discussed in the other thread

Is Indian School park one where firearms are prohibited?

There couldn't be a worse weekend for them to schedule this...

1) There is the gun show
2) There are classes going on
3) There are competitions going on

...these all reduce our numbers, as people will not change their plans for a political event.

I would rather not face the masses alone either. No one showing up would be better than a handful showing up as it will be used to show our cause is unpopular. If no one shows up...well the opposition simply didn't tell us or give us enough noticed.

Steve,  If you have the free time, go investigate and take some pics simply so we know what the opposition is really up to.

TimW: In looking at the MMM announcement, it appears that it's an "add on" to the "Earth Day" celebrations that are going on at Indian School Steele park (or whatever).  If anything, it seems it's just a booth.   Personally, I don't see this as a protest, as much as another lefty segment getting together to talk about how great each other is.  this is not at all like the MMM march from the late 1990s.

This shouldn't be anything close to the scale of the protest back then...the MMM does bear watching, we should better monitor these groups and what they are doing, so next time it isn't a last minute thing.

Now is the time to be pro-active...the timing was bad to get anything going for a counter protest.  If we showed up with anything less than a hundred people, if not several hundred, it would have shown our cause to be unpopular.  I was at the Counter MMM back in 2000.  There were 400-500 of us, and the media widely circulated that there was only 200 of us, and greatly exaggerated the numbers of MMMs.

We are investigating doing protests at various college campuses.  Protests are really a lot of fun, and often expose how rude and violent the opposition is.  It's funny watching the supposed left wing pacifists being drug away by the cops.

The NRA-ILA isn't going to help us, with local politics.  Their track record proves this.  The Governor signed another pro-gun bill into law here AFTER the shootings last week thanks to the tireless efforts of dedicated Arizonans.
