I am shopping for a blunt instrament for... um... "Thumping" melons  i find out in the desert. (to see if they are ripe) What is the prefered melon "Thumping" size for a Mag-Lite? 4 Cell or 3 Cell?

For the smaller melons generally accompanied by larger ones, i was thinking of getting a Mini-Mag Lite. The only down side to the Mini-Mag Lite is the annoying tinking sound they make when contacting a firm melon.

Your advise is greatly appreciated.
