My wife want's to get one for our little girl.

Pet Inc. on the NE corner of Mill and Southern has great prices on tanks. They also have a very large selection of exotic fish. PetsMart is good to go for starter tanks and kits, pretty cheap and they have all the supplies you need to get started. Plus PetsMarts are pretty conviently located throughout the valley. If you do a big tank get your filters off the internet as they are about 1/3 as much. Stay clear of any "aquarium" stores for tanks or supplies as they are usually real expensive.

Don't get too excited in the beginning and dump a bunch of fish into the tank, they will die. To get a fish tank going properly, you will need to the good bacteria established first. To do this, after setting up the tank add a couple of cheap feeder fish. Do small water changes water daily (about 10%). After a week, you can add a few fish but not too many. The good bacteria colonies need to grow enough to accomodate the extra fish. Once a tank gets established, its hard to screw it up.

Good advice above.  One of the keys to a tank is the biology of the tank.  If you get it balanced, there is very little work in keeping it cvlear and looking good.

Most people put too many fish in.  Or mix the wrong kinds.  You need to either find a store that will actually give you good advice and ongoing assitance or read a good book.

My advice would be for a "serene" style of tank.  Get something larger (it doesn't raise the price that much) like 50 gallons or so.  Establish the biology and drop a few small angel fish and discus and let them grow into the tank.  Like 3-4 of each.  As they grow maybe add a few smaller fish for movement like neons.  Thats it.  Well, and some bottom feeders.
