Anybody know where the best prices are on powders and primers in the metro Phoenix area? I'm looking for 8lb or more on rifle propellants (win 748 etc.) , 5k sleeve of primers. Buying online with the hazmat fees is not economical. Thanks in advance.

I've heard that Sportsman's Warehouse has the best prices on bulk supplies. If you're on that side of town, it's worth checking out.

Wally World in Scottsdale now has powder, primers and Hornady and Sierra bullets.

Now I can have the wife pick up tweenkies, milk and primers.

markm, what's wrong with 748? Is it a storage issue or something worse? I'd like to try other powders but 748 has been very reliable for me. And I store it in the garage where it gets pretty hot in the summers.

Yeah, forgot Dillon. They don't have them in their catalog as far as I can see but I don't look much beyond the cover

Nothing. I use 748. I don't like wally world or twinkies. that's all.

748 is downright spooky when the temperature goes up.

Your medium loads at 80 degrees will cause case seperation when it's 105.

I saw lots of bad things happen with 748 at 3 gun matches.

I've been buying most of my supplies at Dillion's and gun shows.

I have bought some from Brunos. I may check into Sportsmans Warehouse.

That was caused by Bad Joo Joo! I load it 100 fps back of M193's 3250 fps.

Let your loaded mag sit out in the sun for 20 minutes in July then fire a few rounds. I'll help you get the primers out of the fcg.

I've shot 748 loads in the heat of the summer in the desert (110-115deg) with no problems. I usually let my mags loaded with ammo sit in the vehicle so I know they are pretty hot by the time I load them into the rifle. Of course I use light to medium range loads so that may explain my trouble free experience.

Me too. My loads are hotter than say, UMC .223, but still around the 3140 fps range. Just hot enough to start flattening the primer, but not as flat as XM193. Room for error, I leave.... mmmm.

I'm going to give Ramshot TAC a try. It is the powder that Blackhills is using in their 5.56 and 7.62 loads.

I've chatted with the factory and TAC was designed as a 7.62 ball propellant for use in automatic weapons. As such it was designed with extreme temperature insensitivity in mind.

Ask around one of the highpower boards about 748. It's a bitch to light when it's cold and shows pressure signs early when it's hot.
