What is the level of training in the pistol class, while I'm comfortable shooting at the range, and my accuracy is OK, I've never had any training like this before, and I'm sure i have some bad habits that need curing. I wouldn't want to sign up and find I was in over my head, or slowing the class down.

When's the next set of classes after these? It takes me quite the while to save up play money, especially after I splurged on my AR. Plus I just took two unpaid days off. I don't get paid vacation yet. But I'd love to take a pistol and AR class. Maybe a Rifle class, if my M70's up to it. At $300+ a class, though, I'd better choose just one.

I agree with Sinistral...bring what you carry or plan to carry...the adage "train like you fight, fight like you train" comes to mind.

I took a carbine class with my FAL and MESA vest to see how they would work out.  I outshot nearly all the folks carrying ARs (both plain Jane and tricked out) using iron sights and 20 round mags with a gun that weighed more than the bangsticks the others were carrying, and my vest weight significantly more than the 3-mag chest rigs or Wilderness belt mag-holders many of the folks used.

However, this exercise taught me a lot about what my gun and equipment was and, more importantly, was not capable of.

Were I taking this course, I'd very likely ask to use my FAL and MESA here, too.

The comment... joing the military and learn to shoot for free... wow! What a statement... I spent 4 years with the 82nd Abn... B Btry 1/320 FA and was an FO for A 2/325 INF... The military taught me how to fire the M16A1... but instructors like Gunsite, Tactical Response and Trident Concepts taught me how to shoot.

The mere fact that you own guns and live in Arizona, or elsewhere for that matter does not mean you know how to shoot. With each class... yes, its an expense, but you will get another tool or tools to put into your tool box for use later... God forbid, if the need were to come about.

I cannot highly recommend enough that if you have guns, if you carry daily, to get training... have a hunger for training... challenge yourself...and to push the envelope constantly.

Take care,

Hope this helps...

Yes, SR is correct... the training from Tactical Response was tops... it, combined with other classes from other trainers... like Trident Concepts aka Jeff Gonzales can really teach the shooter what he/she doesn't get in the military or the police for that matter.

Tactical Response will be out to Arizona again in April 2005. We sure would like to see you folks out there. Afterall, Tactical Response guarantee's their training... where else can you get that?
