The state of AZ has not seen fit to pick me for elk YET (6 years) and not for deer the past two years, but I'll keep trying. (firearms hunts)

This year I'm gonna go back to the fatherland-Missouri-for a few days of visiting the family and deer hunting.

Huh, I'll soon be moving to AZ from Missouri.  Do I infer correctly that deer permits go by some kind of lottery down there?  AK!!!!

Good move gamesniper.  This is the land of plenty.  I got two in central MO on opening day last year, within 20 minutes of each other.

BTW, here you can get as many tags as you can pay for.  At least it was that way last year, and I believe this coming, too.

See you all soon.

Swanny: I was born and raised in Missouri, moved away when I was 30 in 1989. I hunted near Cook Station,  New Haven and Ste. Genevieve, mostly. This year I'll be hunting outside of Cook Station.

To answer your question, YES, AZ has a lottery for most big game except archery deer.
ALL big game firearms hunts (deer, elk, antelope, buffalo, bear) are drawn on a lottery basis. Archery elk, bear and antelope are draw-only basis. Yep, it kinda sucks-like me you may go a couple or few years without firearms hunting.

The plus side is, you can use you favorite deer shootin' iron to kill AS MANY COYOTES YOU WANT, ALL DAY, EVERY DAY, ALL YEAR and the mountain lion seaon (now, they don't have many of those back in MO) lasts all year, tag is over the counter, and is only $13. That should keep ya out in the bush.

To those AZ folks that don't know, to hunt deer in Missouri all you do is buy a tag and hunt wherever you want or can. No draws, lotteries, etc., except for maybe some special black powder hunts in restricted areas. BIG whitetails. (Ft. Leonard Wood)

I hunted just west of Jeff City last year, in Monitau county, but have also hunted my mom & stepdads place in North Central MO.  There's quite a bit of agriculture up there, and the whitetails love the corn and soy.  Their neighbor got a doe that field dressed at 360 lb. a couple years back.  I guess it was like cleaning a pig.  I never got anything like that, though.  Have seen some monster deer up here.

So who's near Tucson down there that would like to teach me how to skin a coyote?  BTW, got one of those here in MO last year, too.
