I have reserved the Casa Grande range from 6:00am to 12:00pm on Saturday June 28, 2003.  Here are the rules sent to me by the City of Casa Grande:

1. There shall be no sale of any kind of goods in the park without prior approval from the Director of the department and any business authorization required by the City has been obtained.

2. The area reserved shall be left in an orderly condition and that all papers, rubbish, and other debris shall be deposited in the proper receptacles for this purpose.

3. No fires shall be made in the park except in designated fire places or fire rings as approved by the Parks and Recreation Department.

4. There shall be no cutting of any vegetation or mutilation of trees or shrubs.

5. Structures causing damage to turf area are prohibited.  Autos, trucks, vans, or other motorized vehicles may not be driven on or parked upon any off-the-road area.

6. There shall be no amplified music without prior approval from the Parks and Recreation Director.

7. No glass beverage containers allowed in any city park.  PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL TRASH MUST BE PICKED UP.

FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH THE ABOVE RULES WILL CAUSE THE ORGANIZATION AND/OR PERSONS IN CHARGE TO BE SUBJECTED TO THE LOSS OF THEIR RIGHT TO RESERVE THE USE OF THE PARK IN THE FUTURE.

In addition to the above rules issued by the city, please observe the following:

8. There will be a cease-fire called at the top of every hour and 30 minuets after every hour (i.e. 7:00, 7:30, 8:00...).  The cease-fire will persist for 5 minuets or longer as necessary.  There will be NO handling of firearms during a cease-fire.

9. There will be NO parking of vehicles within 10 feet of the shooting line.

10. Tannerite will not be allowed at this shoot due to noise complaints in the past.  I am currently trying to get this changed but as of now Tannerite will not be allowed.

12. There will be NO MEDIA at this event.  If any media decides to show up they will be asked to leave and please do not speak to them or answer any questions.  We got bit once, were not going to let it happen again.

And of course use simple common sense.  Everyone was very safe last time and I'm sure this shoot will be the same.  If you plan on bringing children they need to be supervised at all times, a rifle range is the last place we need kids running around unattened.

Once again we will be having porta pottys delivered.  The cost of this is $70.  We will be taking donations towards the porta pottys the day of the shoot.  Any money collected above the cost of the porta pottys will be donated to Casa Grande Parks and Rec dept for letting us use the range.

Also I'm looking for a couple of people with loud voices to patrol the range for the day (call cease-fires, head the safety meeting, kick anyones ass that breaks the rules...), if anyone would like to volunteer please e-mail me.  If anyone is interested in conducting any business at the shoot (as in sale or rental of any goods) please contact me prior to the shoot.

The directions are as follows:

1. Coming from either Phoenix or Tucson, take Interstate 10 to Interstate 8 westbound.

2. Take the Trekkel road exit, and head south.

3. The road will split at Arica Road East, towards Casa Grande Mountain. (The range is at the base.) Take Arica.

4. Arica will turn south. You will see a fenced in Range (Casa Grande P.D. -private) and the public range.

Hoping to bring my newly acquired AR 180     ( a REAL ONE... not that sicko, John Wayne Gacy, commie assed "B" model )and a bit of ammo and some drinks....may have to turn some tricks for gas money....what's the business on Main Street, Casa Grande, AZ like?????

I'll be there if it's below 110! It will be nice to let loose with my FA bushys. The range here makes you shoot autos with rifle ammo inside a concrete tube. After 10 round, you can't see because of the smoke!
Tagged for follow up.
Thanks again Steve

"10. Tannerite will not be allowed at this shoot due to noise complaints in the past. I am currently trying to get this changed but as of now Tannerite will not be allowed."

Who complained?
I live in Casa Grande and shoot out there weekly.

There is only one house close to the range.

Or the caretaker for the skeet club.

I smell BS on the parks Dept. side of the fence.

Damn, I will be flying out on the 27th.

I have missed all of these due to travel conflicts.

Two men from Dillon Pricission were shooting at the range last week.

They drove from scotsdale to enjoy a range that is not crowded.

I told them about the AR shoots and the AR15 web site.

They said to have someone call Dillion Precission with a date for the next shoot.

They told me DP might just fly out the Helo or drive out the Hummer with a Mini gun.

I suggested to bring some of the models to!

Give Dillon Precission/aero A call!

Can't Hurt to try.

I wouldn't mind Dillon out there IF he was just "one of the guys" and didn't try to capitalize or take over the shoot and make it a commercial event. I think that would ruin it for everyone. The whole purpose of these shoots is to have a bunch of everyday people with everyday lives go out and socialize with like minded other people and have a good time, shoot some cool guns and have a few laughs. Like all of the shooters that come, Dillon would have to check his ego at the door.

Casa Grande P.D. showed up at the last shoot and said no more tannerite due to noise complaints. We did get off one more because there was a bunch already mixed and it couldn't be transported.

The cop told me the guy complaining was a retired CG employee who had some "juice".

He lives down the road towards the north.

Who's building the Igloos?  There's no way I could shoot day time in June unless it was raining or something.

As far as the heat.

Casa Grande range has covered benchs.

If a few good people would bring some shade tents, like you use camping it would help.

It is a dry heat.105 in the shade on my patio in CG right now.

It should be fine for the full time arizonians.

I wish I could attend.

Maybe next time.

True my ass! I don't know of any fat guys that were even there, other than myself, and I positioned myself at the last bench to help facilitate the cease fires. I also got to the range at 5am so I could pay for the porta potty's being delivered.

So, the solution is simple...Get there early and get a bench before the fat guys take em all...

I have changed the reservation time, I'm only reserving the range until noon now instead of 6:00pm because I doubt many of us will be able to stand the afternoon heat.  I figure we could start shooting at sunrise then pack up about 11:00 or noon and all head somewhere for lunch in Casa Grande.  Let me know what you guys think.

AZRedneck, when you reserve the pottys only get one and see if they can pick it up by noon or 1:00pm.  I don't think we're going need two this time.

What a bunch of wusses, can't handle a little heat!  Must not be AZ natives!  I'll be walking the open desert in this stuff all summer long.  Hopefully come winter I won't be one of the fat guys on the benches.

Edit to Add:

Why the hell do you guys shoot at ranges?  Don't you have to pay for that?  Why don't you just meet up out in the desert?  I came accross a bunch of MGers about a couple years back in Marana that did that.  (Too damn bad I got there late, everyone was outta ammo!)

That patch of desert in Marana was probably owned by a guy named Fong or Wong (I think). He's bigtime into FA. Anyway, it's private property and all property owner aren't into shooters. And there are other advantages to ranges, like range safety. I shoot at Redington sometimes, but I still am not 100% sure it's legal out there. And sadly, lots of the shooters leave a shitload of trash and brass. As far as the heat, it's going to be 108 Sunday. I'm a native but it's still ain't a lot of fun shooting when it's over 105.

Steve_ and I were talking about going to lunch after...(You know us fat people need to keep our shape)...There are a few places here. I know of 2 sports bars. One of them has off track betting and it isn't much as far as aesthetics inside, but it has a KILLER Reuben sandwich! (I should know, I'm fat and take up the covered benches, therefore I know killer sandwiches)...There's also a Famous Sams..The wife was just saying Mel's on Cottonwood just changed ownership and it's good, but I've never been there...I recommend McMashers which is the off track betting sports bar..

Not sure if that patch was private property or not but I know everyone used to shoot out there, haven't been there in a while though.  It's legal to shoot in Redington, I go up there once a week to pick up cans and brass at the desert ranges up there.  Had a forest ranger stop and thank me the last time I was up there.  It is tragic that everyone leaves their garbage about, that's something that has always pissed me off.  The guys I came accross in Marana ran the shoot very professionally.  They had range masters and were careful to pick up their stuff; even had a tow truck to take a car out they shot up and shot on tarps to keep the brass managable.

Next time you want to go out to Redingtan let me know! Preferably during the Monsoon. I'll bring some C3 toys, and I always clean up my mess. Feel free to IM or email. I don't like to shoot without backup for obvious reasons. I live on the Northeast side, so it's a perfect place for me.

I'd be glad to meet up with ya out there so long as you don't mind shooting with a minor.  Like I said, now that school is out I go up there pretty regularly.  Just IM me or something and tell me when it's good for you.  Since I'm on Summer vacation I usually go out during the week to avoid others, but if you want I'd be willing to meet ya up there some weekend.  I'm still waiting on those damn monsoons, I wanna do some swimming at the falls.  Do you know if they have water or not?  I've been meaning to hike down there but I'm usually pretty pooped around 2 or 3 and I never get around to it.  I'm on the outskirts of the city off Ajo but I don't mind making the drive because Redington is such a beautiful place.  I've been going up there since I was just a tot so I guess it's kind of ingrained in me.

I'm more or less just starting my collection so I only have a few toys I could bring with me, nothing as exciting as your C3's.[:\]

I just hope it stays under 110. That's the magic number for me. Hey, Is there a motel near there, maybe in Toltec? I'm thinking I don't want to get uo at 4 to get there at 6, but If I sleep close by it wouldn't be too bad.

There is a Comfort Inn, a Super 8 Motel and a Motel 6 on Florence Blvd in CG..There is also a Holiday Inn on Pinal and Florence..Up Pinal there are the typical "rent-by-the-hour" no-tell motel's..I dunno if they have porno movies so don't ask cuz I know nothing!.. Some guys camp out at the range. There's a fire pit there. There is also a Denny's and JB's on Florence for breakfast...

Is it legal to camp out there the night before?  I'm coming from Phoenix and this would be kinda nice.  It was real nice at my house this morning (under 70 degrees at 6:00AM).  I really don't need the CG cops/Pinal Sheriff deputys shining lights in my eyes at 2:00AM and 'entertaining' me for an hour while they call in my stats to make sure I'm real.
Can we get an official "okay to tent camp" notice prior to next week?  (or would one be needed?)  I would probably arrive about 8:00 PM or slightly earlier so as to set up in the last light.

The City of Casa Grande will be taking noise level measurments during our June 28th shoot.  These measurments are required to be taken at all shooting ranges by state law.

It would be very helpful if someone could bring a .50 cal rifle for noise testing, if the noise level is in the allowable range, we will then be able to use .50 cals at future shoots.

Also if someone could bring a few tannerite targets I would like to have noise testing done with those also.  Once again if the noise level is in the allowable range we will be able to use tannerite at future shoots.  Tannerite still will not be allowed at this shoot, the only time tannerite will be used at this shoot is for noise testing purposes.

The new Casa Grande Parks and Recreation Director will be joining us for this shoot.  She will be observing the shoot and maybe participating.  I will be working with her to hopefully get funding for future improvments to the range.  Please take the time to introduce yourself and let her know we appreciate the allowed use of the public range.

Steve
