Has anyone here heard of Dan Young or Young Manufacturing? I bought some magazines from teezus.com at the ter-mark show this afternoon and the guy told me that Young was " the BEST AR guy" in town. He mentioned something about full fluted M-4 profile barrels, I seem to remember a guy selling uppers like that at the roadrunner show in Glendale a few weeks back. Thanks, Spackler.

I have been looking at his detatchable (picatiney rail mounted) front and rear sights for a while, they look real solid and reasonably priced, but I already hav an ARMS #40.

Last gunshow in Glendale, I talked with him again.  He seems to know his poop.  I will probably buy a fluted midweight 20" barrel for a lightweight 20" AR-15 project I have a need for.  He flutes them himself and they look as good or better than anything out there.  He lives and has his shop in Glendale.  I will probably have him assemble the upper for me, since I have none of the tools and he has them all.

Somebody has to have worked with him?  Lets hear it!

If anyone cares here's the deal, after a 45 min. Yahoo hunt I tried the search string 'young manufacturing glendale az'. Got the phone and address for Young Manufacturing 623-915-3889,at 5631 n 53rd ave in glendale. Also got a reference of him in Glen Zediger's book, "The Competitive AR15". Listed in the the aknowledgements it says "outstanding bolt carriers".   I spoke to him this afternoon, he told me he makes his own barrels in 4140 chrome moly with 5.56 chambers and his uppers are mil-spec FN contract, he also stocks FN carry handles for $75 and various other parts.               Spackler

Besides if something goes wrong it's a short drive to a long ass-kicking and not the other way around right?

Spackler: you got a way with words!
All this talk about AR's and local 'smiths has got me wanting another AR (or two) now!  I say we give Young some business and see how well he takes care of us, how good his prices are, etc and report back here.  After speaking to him in person (at local gunshows) a couple times he seems like a nice enough guy....

Thank's Bill. I figure since God didn't make me good looking I might as well be entertaining. I think you are on to something. How many local AR 'smiths/specialists are there? I know of Mike Detty in Tucson and CavArms.Isn't TopCrest working on a new gas system for ARs? There's ASA too, I suppose, but they haven't gotten very good reviews here in the forums. I just might buy  my upper from Dan this week, anyone interested in helping me test it out?  Spackler.
