I got my deer cams out a couple weeks ago, this weekend I started a lick with Deer Cane, and checked all my stands and blinds.
It’s getting close!

I typically only hunt WV, deer are much smaller, but quantity has a quality of it's own.

I've put a lot of work into the whole area in the last 3 years, but it's paid off. Maybe a bit too many doe and fawn for it to be a big buck magnet, but I get more than enough buck traffic. WV isn't the place for trophy buck hunters but I eat what I shoot.. I get to enjoy seeing a lot more than I can shoot too. Turkey, bear, bobcat, yokes, rabbits even a few grouse. . Haven’t had any time to put food plots, etc in this year but I did pull the one cam I have up yesterday. Definitely have some big guys hanging around!
 Mostly concentrated on my Montana trip this fall but if that turns into tag soup I should have no problem filling the freezer from my backyard. |

I'm living vicariously through everyone else as well so far. Since the lumber market is back, they decided to timber the woods again while the getting is good.
Only have a single tower stand on the edge of an open field until their done dropping trees, and it's not worth putting the camera out with all the activity. |

I was under the assumption that you couldn’t, which is the biggest reason I’ve dragged my feet on it. Didn’t want to spend thousands on night vision and a laser only to then spend a couple thousand more on a night vision or thermal scope. |

Central Ohio gents just a word of caution if you plan on using Sharps in Amada Ohio to process your deer ( ya ya in before the guy "I do my own" )
Out of 120 pound deer gutted weight I got back 12 pounds of meat and 12 lbs of burger,?? typo not 20 yes 12 pounds of actual meat. I asked them why, they had no answer She actually said I dont know. after some phone calls I was basically told to go pound sand. Its a shame too, they to me have the best pepper and cheese summer sausage. I have used them multiple times and with no issues. My guess is I had the second deer there on opening day.. sounds like to me people were looking for some free deer meat. or just game mine away to someone else.. Very disappointed! |

I'm the "I do my own" guy, so I do put forth a bit more time and effort than I'd expect most shops to do. My WV deer average about 120-130 dressed, I typically get between 40 and 55# of packaged boneless meat. I don't save anything odd like heart, liver, kidney or tongue. ETA: My dad and I spent about 2 hours processing the lil 6pt I scored in WV. Yeah, it took us too long, but it is time we'll spent. 20 years from now, I'll wish he was still there to help. |

I cut up my own deer & I have found you get about 1/3 of the hanging weight 120 lbs deer = + - 40lbs of meat ymmv
Most people over exaggerate the weight by 30 % . . . Buy a scale , play a guessing game with your hunting buddies ... You & your buddies guess the weight BEFORE you hang the deer 87% of the time the guesstimate will be way high |

looks like I am going back to doing it myself.. its been 30 years ..
but does anyone have suggestion on where to go in central ohio?? I made some calls everyone is short staffed... My wifes brother had the same issue.. he went to pick up his deer he only got back a fraction of the deer,, He made them weight it out and it was 13 lbs of red meat. 13 lbs he refused to pay for it... Due to meat prices being so high the only thing i can think is they they are stealing your deer.. |

went out last night sat in the blind from 3 to 7. Nothing even came in area! Took off around 7, and on my way home about 1/2 mile away in a fresh cut bean field ... there they were around 15 of them...
