well, I can tell you who LOST--BIG TIME, one 16 year-old "troubled" teen (yes, but not troubled enough not to try and pull an armed stick-up at a Dayton Mall with two other perps.) meet Jawaad Jabbar

Teen Shot Dead at Dayton Mall Trying To Rob CCW of His Shoes

...and now, for the end of the story--the usual and customary choreographed "he was a good boy trying to get his life turned around:

“JJ was a good kid, making good decisions and turning his life around. Everytime he stepped on the field, he was determined to be the best player. It's upsetting that his life ended so soon and I just want to send prayers out to his family and he will really be missed,” a fellow football teammate, Messiah Haralson, told FOX19 NOW.

Middletown Middles athletics sent a tweet Saturday night in honor of Jabbar.

FOX19 NOW spoke to Jabbar's father by phone late Sunday. He says his son is a world-class young man, a good athlete and a good student.

I am sorry, , how GD stupid do these people making these comments think people are? the kid was a PUNK. a strong-arm ROBBER, who, as most kids his age think today, the whole 'effing world revolves around their slightest wants/needs/whims, and they are ready to kill YOU for their fantasies. NOT! these "troubled" kids better get their asses and ears outta all the electronic gizmos they are plugged into and realize one thing: some hoodie ain't gonna deprive hard-working and decent people of their stuff or lives no more. you work your butt off, getting up each day, working, paying taxes, trying to scratch out a living--and some thugs just sashay up, pull a gun and say: GIMME!"

?...the kid's father says his son was a "world-class young man?" what world--Sudan, ISIS, or Boko Haram? cheesh....

?...since when do "good kids" go around armed with a pistol and with two other guys trying to rob other people? is this just a "graduate level course" these punks take after the thrill of cold-cocking old people wears off in their "Knock Out Game?"

rant over--but this very old timer Ohioan is getting mighty sick of this manure which now pops up daily here and across the nation.

We still don't know the race of the shooter do we?

On the one hand, not a high percentage of the CCW crowd is black.  But they do exist.

On the other hand, not a high percentage of white guys buy $200 basketball shoes.  But they do exist.

On the other other hand, it hasn't been mentioned so must not be expoitable.

On the other other other hand, if it was a black CCW that certainly would be (good) news.

I was at the mall in Toledo referenced in this article.  I was there just after the fight broke out, so I didn't see anything. I wondered why there weren't lines around 8am when I got there for work!

They could be charged with murder because someone died during the commission of a violent felony.

Dayton Daily News actually has a decent follow up article.

http://www.mydaytondailynews.com/news/news/crime-law/mall-should-allow-ccw-holders-advocate-says/

Law-abiding concealed carry weapons permit holders should be allowed to carry their firearms in private businesses that cannot guarantee their customers will not encounter criminals, according to a representative of a state firearms advocacy group.

Joe Eaton, southwest region leader of the Buckeye Firearms Association and Warren County resident, said permit holders should be allowed to carry their firearms into malls.

“Unless the Dayton Mall can absolutely guarantee all of their shoppers that none of the criminals are going to be on the property, then it only makes sense to let each individual decide how they are best going to keep themselves or their families safe as they’re out in public,” Eaton said.

Saturday’s deadly shooting outside the Dayton mall is a perfect example of why permit holders should be allowed to carry weapons into malls, he said.

I completely disagree with forcing malls to allow permit holders. Private property rights matter. If you feel they can't guarantee your safety, then you don't have to shop there. Yes, malls should let permit holders carry on their property, but they shouldn't be forced to. Convince them it is in their best interest to allow it.

Correct......forcing private property owners to do anything is a slippery slope.....you may not be happy with what you as a private property owner are forced to do

Like not allowing guests to consume a legal product (cigarettes) in your place of business? Sadly we are already sliding down that slope, but I agree with your sentiment.

There are already scores of laws on the books that force private property owners to follow laws they may not want to follow. Compromise and allow any innocent CCW holders to sue if they are injured or their families to sue if there is a death due to the business failing to protect those they disarmed.

Moar on this story; let me dissect a bit 'o this:

One of the MHS students there at the time of the mall shooting was cited for a misdemeanor charge in April 2013 for bringing what officers thought was a handgun to the high school. The school resource officer was told the teen was in possession of a gun, but further investigation indicated it was a pellet gun that resembled a semi-automatic handgun, according to police.

In May 2012, the other teen was given a criminal summons by police after being involved, along with two other boys, in a disturbance in the Dollar Store on North University. They were asked by the store manager to leave the day before because they caused a disturbance, but returned to the store, began cursing at the store manager and throwing a bottle that hit two patrons, according to the police report.

This newspaper is not naming the other two teens pending formal charges possibly being filed.

Jawaad moved to the Middletown City Schools District from Columbus earlier this school year, and was a sophomore on the football team, school officials said. Earlier this year, he was charged with petty theft for allegedly stealing Pop Tarts, two plates of fried chicken, a Snickers bar and a plate of sushi from Kroger, 3420 Towne Blvd., according to Middletown police reports obtained by this newspaper. Two other juveniles and MHS football players were charged with petty theft, according to police reports.

Jawaad also was charged with disorderly conduct for allegedly punching a Hamilton High School student at a basketball game, and he was in possession of a “small baggie of marijuana,” while at school, according to police reports.
View Quote

and this is the clincher:

The Rev. Michael Bailey, pastor at Faith United Church and linkage coordinator at MHS, said Jawaad has been suspended at least twice for his actions. Bailey said he was “blown away” when he heard Jawaad, a soft-spoken student, was allegedly involved in an attempted robbery over a pair of tennis shoes.

“How did I miss this?” Bailey asked. “I never saw this coming.”

He said losing a life over a pair of shoes shows how materialistic our society has become.

“It’s like, ‘I got mine. What about you?’” Bailey said.

...as to the first part-above: to this old gray-head, this is very simple. If you try to grow a crop and weeds invade the field, if you don't act, the weeds usually win out. no crop. likewise, if you are training a puppy, and it constantly runs out to the road chasing cars moving at 55+mph, if the puppy is not corrected nor DISCIPLINED, it will not make the transition from "puppy" to full grown adult "dog." That's life and the immutable laws of mechanics and physics.

so if a human being in his child-hood and fantasy stage commits minor )?) transgressions (like petty theft for allegedly stealing Pop Tarts, two plates of fried chicken, a Snickers bar and a plate of sushi from Kroger), and is not DISCIPLINED nor CORRECTED by having the hammer come down heavy on him, he's going to continue, but more importantly, ESCALATE these bad habits (yes, there, I've said it--there really is actions which force consequences), just like the puppy running after fast moving cars. hey, that's Darwin's evolution, no?

our little "choir boy" at issue obviously neither had the hammer come down heavy on him and/or just didn't give a sh** about a) running around with a pack of wolves who gave him no direction, care, or guidance, 2) had no idea that his ACTIONS have CONSEQUENCES, some unforeseen. again, pure physics (a DISCIPLINE apparently untaught in today's young generation life experiences or schools, and 3) the kid had absolutely no MORAL COMPASS. (a benefit and hallmark of religion and its teachings.) which brings me to the second point:

you then have a "Reverend" commenting that he was "blown away" and "never saw this coming." am I reading this correctly? this Preacher is upset about "materialism?" wtf? Mr. Preacher: try these on for size, given to the educated world by an old Jewish dude, who actually met and spoke with G-d a few years back:

#6. Thou shall not kill. (this infers--do not TRY to kill)
#8. Thous shall not STEAL.
#9. Thou shall not bear false witness...(lying)
#10. Thou shall not covet  (gimme)

so this old gray-head has to infer: "Mr. Rev. Bailey, why or how did your preaching not affect your church member, who went to see Jesus and all of eternity rather violently?" did Jawaad just not go to your church? or did he attend your church but just not listen to you? did he both attend and not listen, but just not UNDERSTAND?

this gets to the heart of my blathering: KNOWLEDGE and UNDERSTANDING.

it's up to: PARENTS (yeah, the plural there--even if they are separated or divorced) to RAISE and EDUCATE their offspring. likewise, the SCHOOL SYSTEM aids in this, add in components of RELIGION, (Rev. Bailey), and lastly SOCIETY (this really means you and me as expressed by our LEGAL and JUDICIAL systems, when the two prior "education" vectors fail, because if these carriers of knowledge fail then LIFE and the "mean streets" prevail, and their education is the real "school of hard knocks," and in this case it is the school of the dead.

so the FAILURES of the-above "educators" and Jawaad played a part in this linear line of actions and inactions which resulted in the loss of a human life.

would the outcome have been different if each or any of these responsible parties; PARENT, EDUCATORS, CHURCH, and SOCIETY acted decisively and kicked this kid's butt back into reality? none of this namby/pamby "take some 'time outs," or other assorted bull crap. handled the kid with kid gloves like he was porcelain china?

this old-timer thinks "yes."

to quote a very old movie: "What we have here is a failure to communicate."  spare the rod and not spoil the child--in this case KILL the child. this is what society has become today: everybody in responsible positions does a minute little bit and then just shrugs and says: "it's not my fault."

BUT IT IS THEIR FAULT.

back to basics--do something wrong--get punished--learn from mistakes--don't let them escalate--learn from your mistakes--or learn very serious consequences.

If you're mad enough come January 5th you'll contact the superintendent of the MIddletown  public school district and ask them why they felt it necessary to lionize this punk on Middletown High School's Twitter feed.

NO SCHOOL DISTRICT SHOULD EVER MOURN THE LOSS OF A STUDENT INVOLVED IN THE COMMISSION OF A VIOLENT CRIME MUCH LESS HEAP PRAISE JUST BECAUSE THE KID WAS A STUDENT ATHLETE. SHAME!

very good point, ThePontificator. thanks for the input and tip off. we'll let them know our viewpoints about HS athletes and criminal conduct.

Look--I was in HS sports in the 1950s and early 1960s. High School wrestling. We were the winning-est #1 wrestling team in Ohio for many years. (cf. Coach "Mike.") Coach had a few real basic rules: A) You are a GENTLEMAN on the mat and OFF the mat, since once to "wore the uniform" of the school sports, you became the school's AMBASSADOR for good or ill.  B) You screw up in class (bad attitude, bad grades, suspensions) you're off the team. C) You get caught SMOKING (yeah--THAT was big back then) you'd answer to Coach (not pleasant.) D) You get arrested over the weekend by the police or sheriff for underage alcohol consumption, open container, or "rumbling" (gang battles and warfare--even back then) your ass was off the team IMMEDIATELY, once you bonded out or were "remanded to your parent or guardian', you were obliged to "turn in your suit" and get the worst dressing down imaginable from Coach in front of the rest of the team, who in many cases, kicked your ass behind the ball diamond after Coach humiliated you in front of the entire team, since you let down the entire team and caused the Team REPUTATION to be sullied and drug through the mud. Each and every one of us had PRIDE and would not let another team member DOWN.

No lawyers, no courts, no "counselors," no baloney. It got handled. You knew the score and every team member did as well. THAT'S why we won state championships year after year.

I saw an excellent heavyweight get thrown off the team in a heart-beat for his "lookit me--I am cool" attitude and actions. This guy did not believe in ABSOLUTES--where one thing is RIGHT and another thing is WRONG. he set his own ideas up as to what he alone believed. If it felt good for him, then it was "right." NOT! Sure sounds like the relativistic bull crap taught to kids today in schools and the media.

When I taught HS, I insisted on ABSOLUTES. I taught vocational machine trades; How in the name of Heaven could a young man expect to get a machinist job if a blueprint calls out: "machine to 1.250 inch diameter" and the kid said: "NO, I'll do whatever I want." Duh! That's what is taught today--actual and moral RELATIVISM.

Total bull crap. There are ABSOLUTES. I would tell my students: "You don't believe in ABSOLUTES? Look at the sign in my classroom, and if you still don't believe in ABSOLUTES, then just jump out our second story class window and test the "theory" of gravity." Nobody took me up on it. Gravity talks, and BS walks! It was a sign just like this one below (gee--if a cop asks you to do something, do you resist and fight the LEO? NOT!)

That's life and the immutable laws of mechanics and physics.

so if a human being in his child-hood and fantasy stage commits minor )?) transgressions (like petty theft for allegedly stealing Pop Tarts, two plates of fried chicken, a Snickers bar and a plate of sushi from Kroger), and is not DISCIPLINED nor CORRECTED by having the hammer come down heavy on him, he's going to continue, but more importantly, ESCALATE these bad habits (yes, there, I've said it--there really is actions which force consequences), just like the puppy running after fast moving cars. hey, that's Darwin's evolution, no?

our little "choir boy" at issue obviously neither had the hammer come down heavy on him and/or just didn't give a sh** about a) running around with a pack of wolves who gave him no direction, care, or guidance, 2) had no idea that his ACTIONS have CONSEQUENCES, some unforeseen. again, pure physics (a DISCIPLINE apparently untaught in today's young generation life experiences or schools, and 3) the kid had absolutely no MORAL COMPASS. (a benefit and hallmark of religion and its teachings.) which brings me to the second point:

you then have a "Reverend" commenting that he was "blown away" and "never saw this coming." am I reading this correctly? this Preacher is upset about "materialism?" wtf?

Jawaad also was charged with disorderly conduct for allegedly punching a Hamilton High School student at a basketball game, and he was in possession of a "small baggie of marijuana,” while at school, according to police reports.

and this is the clincher:

The Rev. Michael Bailey, pastor at Faith United Church and linkage coordinator at MHS, said Jawaad has been suspended at least twice for his actions. Bailey said he was "blown away” when he heard Jawaad, a soft-spoken student, was allegedly involved in an attempted robbery over a pair of tennis shoes.

"How did I miss this?” Bailey asked. "I never saw this coming.”

He said losing a life over a pair of shoes shows how materialistic our society has become.

"It’s like, ‘I got mine. What about you?’” Bailey said.

...as to the first part-above: to this old gray-head, this is very simple. Nothing for the liberal media or the poverty pimps to latch on to. A law abiding citizen defends himself against a person he saw as a threat to his life. it is a classic "good shoot" there are too many whiteness's and his buddies collaborated the circumstances. I am quite sure the media is absolutely livid because they cant find a way to demonize the shooter. Sadly, the administration and liberal media are looking for any reason they can find to stir up racial tensions. I have a theory about why that is but that's for another time. (deep conspiracy theory stuff)
One thing I would like to know is, where did this young man get a hold of the gun he used in the robbery attempt?
And not that it matters, but has anyone ever heard the race of the shooter?

Thank you to "BeNotAfraid" for reminding us that we (society) are so far off course in our modern world. This "Titanic" we are on is already in the iceberg fields and too many sheople believe it is unsinkable. Calamity is upon us and they don't realize it.

"BeNotAfraid": Keep speaking the truth in love, as long as you have breath and life, you ARE making a difference.

Reading thru this thread reminded me that we older folks ( no offense to the OP, I respect my elders because they have Wisdom) have arrived as the Standard Bearer. WE have the responsibility to raise the future generations with a sound moral compass (yes I refer to that Jewish Carpenter named Jesus who is the Way, the Truth and the Life...the inventor and perfect example of Absolutes as referenced previously), personal integrity (best taught by personal observation of my own life...yes they are watching US pay taxes, tell the truth even when it hurts, forgiving and asking for forgiveness and even little things like giving back too much change from a cash register clerk who mis-counted).

This event is tragic for the family and friends left behind in the wake of a culmination of poor decisions and non-decisions, by that very group of suffering people.

The best time to teach these important life lessons are every moment of every day...waiting for tragedy to occur and THEN responding is way too late.  Make every teach-able moment count as parents, bosses, co-workers, friends, brothers and sisters!

I completely disagree with forcing malls to allow permit holders. Private property rights matter. If you feel they can't guarantee your safety, then you don't have to shop there. Yes, malls should let permit holders carry on their property, but they shouldn't be forced to. Convince them it is in their best interest to allow it.

Dayton Daily News actually has a decent follow up article.

http://www.mydaytondailynews.com/news/news/crime-law/mall-should-allow-ccw-holders-advocate-says/
[div style='margin-left: 40px;']

JLE

We need the law to just say we can carry where ever we feel we need to carry... cut the bull shit about gun free safety zones... the fucks that come up with this bull shit are clueless about the real world...

I am to the point....  I don't give a fuck about the signs.  If it isn't banned by statute putting a felony on me, don't ask don't tell.   Private property shiiiiiiiittttttt!  It's a mall, a huge place open to the public and the owner, or the conglomerate that owns it is in CA or China.  Fuck their sign.

well that explains the lack of fuss. and dont take this the wrong way, if the shooter was a black man, defending himself by means of a legally carried fire arm...Good on him. another American standing up to crime and defending himself.  Statistally speaking though, 97% of Black people that are murdered are killed by other black people. where are the good reverends with all their moral outrage. where is the media calling attention to this problem and where is the administration doing something, anything other than stir up imagined nation wide racist epidemic. Oh I'm sorry, the government is launching a program to train police officers to be more gentle with the poor criminals. pretty soon they will hamstring the police like they did the military. "you cant defend yourself or fight back until you're dead" we dont want to offend the perps or, god forbid, injure them. that would violate their rights. pretty soon, if not already, criminals will have more rights than their victims. in my opinion, (and I dont give a damn what color your skin is) if you commit a crime or resist arrest and you get hurt or killed, that is on you. you family and their glory hound lawyers do not get to complain or sue or whatever...
sorry, ranting.

Did you guys notice how this quickly became a non story?

I heard from reliable source shooter was black man....

And that's thy this isn't more of a story and there isn't more outrage.  Black lives apparently only matter when it's whitey defending himself.

I agree with what you're saying.  BUT, those parts in red are exactly what is wrong with this society.  The very fact that good upstanding people have to quantify their thoughts for fear of "offending" someone.  Bullshit, call a spade a spade.

I liked Morgan Freeman's interview on 60 Minutes.  When asked how you bring an end to racism he simply states, "Stop talking about it!  You stop referring to me as a black man and I'll stop referring to you as a white man."  I'm paraphrasing here since I can't get to YouTube at work.

I agree with you though; if you commit a crime and get hurt and/or killed well tough shit.  Actions have consequences.  And I will not shed a tear for a thug shot during the commission of a crime.  By the way black America, "thug" is not synonyms with "black" so get over yourselves.

wow! Mega-Thanks, Ubiquitous1. REALLY.

it's taken many years to bring us to the state we're in now--and it will take a few years to "un-do" all the bad. (barring either Divine Intervention or a Revolution)

it begins little-by-little with each and every one of us standing up and speaking TRUTH. our fathers and grand-fathers did not hesitate to let the truth be known.

I agree with the recent comment from Morgan Freeman--just quit "pigeon-holing" everyone and everything. we are all AMERICANS, first and foremost. our common ground.

“The mystic chords of memory, stretching from every battle-field, and patriot grave, to every living heart and hearth-stone, all over this broad land, will yet swell the chorus of America, when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature."

(my version, not A.L.'s)

those always placing blame and labels on groups are dividers, not uniters.

back we go to ABSOLUTES. they are real and they are there.  violate laws and common sense, expect intended and unintended consequences.

Too many philosophers in this world want to dissect this story and examine its finer points.

From my various reading, here is what I have gathered:

1: Guy tried to steal other guy's shoes (fucktarded but whatever, dude wanted shoes)
2: Guy with shoes liked them, so refused to give them to person 1.
3: Person 1 pulls gun on guy with shoes because apparently he really wants them.
5: Shoe guy blasts his ass since he, well, he likes his damn shoes.

End of story and good shoot.

According to story on WHIO, the CHL holder has been cleared of felony related charges. One of the two juveniles arrested has been released due to insufficient evidence.

Just read an update (?) on DDN.

"We have a couple of kids being charged right now who have no prior
involvement whatsoever in juvenile court,” said L. Patrick Mulligan, the
attorney representing the 16-year-old who was arrested. "They are
wonderful kids. They are involved in sports…

So apparently being "involved in sports" automatically absolves them of any responsibility?  What a shit bag.  I'll never understand the obsession with high school and college sports, particularly football, and why kids are treated like special snowflakes because they play sports.

I spoke with a friend of mine's niece what attends the same high school as the three young men involved. she says they were all wanna be "thugz" and she isn't surprised they did something like this.
To the point of dirt bag lawyers, apparently multiple responsible adult witnesses are all liars when it comes to accusing young misunderstood "Athletes". not to mention the fact that at least one of the young perpetrators collaborated (basically confessed) to the details of the crime.
And finally, if the Dayton Mall has a "No weapons policy" they should really post it somewhere on the property. I went there last weekend looking for the infamous "only criminals can carry here" stickers and could not find a single one. so until I see one, I will continue to exercise my 2nd amendment rights at the mall and if I ever do see the sticker, I and allot of people I know will find another place to patronize.
