I figure that I would throw this up here, I’m having a hard time finding Hard Red Winter Wheat locally and I was wondering if anyone could send me their source, somewhere north of Columbus would be great...

Thanks

I couldn't find a good local source either.  I drive out to these folks in PA.  It's probably a stretch for you.

If you find a distributor somewhere closer, post it here...

How far north?  In Ashtabula County, just south of I-90 at the Route 45 in Austinburg ( exit 223 of all things) the store with the huge rocking chair can order it for you.  If you are really interested I can find the number for you.  Last time I was there it was $23'ish for a 50# bag.

Thanks for the reply…

I’m just willing to make the drive, thus I put in North of Columbus.

I thought about taking a chance and stopping at Medina’s Feed Supply and see what I come up with.

Astronwolf and Safe 1, I’m not sure if you know that Lehmans also has Hard and Soft Wheat for $35 for 25 lbs… Not the best price, I was hoping for about $1 per pound, so YES Safe1, if you even tell me the name of the place, address or phone number I’ll find it... at those prices, it's worth the drive.

I was thinking that maybe someone from Middlefield could have an insight or a connection.

Why can’t I live in Boise? http://boise.craigslist.org/grd/1450560769.html

There's a place in North Bloomfield too.  This place and the Austinburg place probably get their wheat delivered by Frankferd Farms (see my link in a previous post.)  Frankferd maintains a regular delivery route in Ohio.

Thansk for the link (even though it isn't my thread)I am going to give them a call tomorrow.  I hope the pricing is a dated in the catalog and prices have come down to what I ordered the bag from B-n-B.

The "hard stuff" has to get trucked in from the upper midwest.  That increases the price, and the distributor has to get their profit too.  Wheat was less expensive a year ago.  IMHO the price increase wasn't so bad.  Beans went up in price something like crazy.

Yeah, I try (when I have the time) to stop in these bulk locations and see what they have.

It's not easy to find since what's grown here is usually soft winter wheat.

I'll take a source for Soft Winter Wheat too, if you know of any.
