Armdctzn and I finally got a chance to shoot the Bowling ball mortar for the first time last night. It worked pretty well, we were getting about 13 seconds of hang time with a 16 Lb ball using 3 Oz of powder that resulted in about a 30 foot group with one flyer.

Here are some stills from a video Duranda1 took. The bowling ball can be seen in flight towards the top of the blast.

Just for shits and giggles we put some gasoline on top of 5 Oz of powder and got way back. You could really feel the heat come off of the fireball. Look at the trees in the photo for an idea of scale.

You are some crazy motherf.... oh, wait... that was me.

Yes, that is one fine mortar, if I do say so myself.

OD45, the balls went out about 200 yards and up about 600 yards, I'd guess.
They make a very satisfying whistle on the way down, and there is a noticable
space between when you see it hit the ground and when you hear it.

Good clean all-American fun.

Looks like I won't be at Miller's at all.

I don't think it would be all that safe at Miller's.
It would either go way, way past the berm, or you'd risk having it hit the
berm and come toward the line at a disconcerting speed!

Something tells me Tim probably wouldn't like the fireball round either.

Thats pretty sweet. Not sure if Iam hearing geese or the ball whistling in the video but I can hear something.

Can you guys dial that thing in to take out a crowd of flesh eating zombies? Maybe you could make some cardboard cutouts and practice?

When we get finished, not only will we be able to take out a crowd of flesh-eating zombies, but we will be able to take out the particular zombie of your choosing in the crowd!

Seriously, we are going to try to work on getting the smallest groups possible with it.
