voting. So I have a few questions.
I think I'm going with Blackwell for Gubernor, he seems to be pretty friendly to our cause but what about Senators. Is there anyone worth looking at that is running against Dewine?
I can't stand him and that other knobcheese Voinavich(sp?) but I'm not sure there is anyone out there that is a Conservative that can do the job better than him?
Let me know what you guys think......

I hate to generalize on important issues, but frankly ANYONE who opposes Dewinestein and Voinofabitch is getting my vote....unless their running platform is 80% taxes and bans on everything that makes loud noises.

Dewine and Voiny suck, IMHO.

Just remember, its less important in national politics how your individual Senator votes, than which party is in charge and decides what actually gets voted on.  At present, there are no viable alternatives to dewine or voinovich.

Huge +1

If you vote in a way that tips the balance of power in the Comgress, we are screwed, blued, and tatooted.  You DO NOT want to see the kind of gun laws being drafted in the offices of Schmuckmmer, Feinswine, and KKKlinton.

Choose wisely.

There was a gentleman at a recent PRO show who was soliciting signatures to run against Dewine.  I can't recall his name, but he is very pro gun, and even displayed a copy of his Form 4 for a full auto M16.

Blackwell is your man, he gets my vote.  He's a good man.

DeWine and Voinovich both suck, but I will still vote for them for the reasons mentioned above.
The Republican party is a whole helluva lot better to have in power than the demoncraps.
There are no viable alternatives to either at this time, unfortunately.  Refusing to vote for them on principle would only help their opponents, which would screw gun owners big time.  So, I say vote for their sorry asses to help the greater good.

The only problem with voting them in on party lines is that both have shown complete willingness to sabotage their own party, and vote against it.

How is that good for us? How is that one iota different than voting in a Democrat, or an independant, or a stuffed bear? If they work against us, but carry an "R" after their name, does that somehow make up for it?

If this country would just stop voting lesser evils and START voting principle, we wouldn't be so fucked up....we wouldn't suffer through years of RINO's that are impossible to unseat.

Yeah, I know that's ideallic, but I'm sick of voting for shitbag professional polititians when I should be voting for representatives.

I hope you feel better now.

How is it good for us?  I'll tell you how.  What do you think would have happened to the "assault weapons" ban had the democrats been in power, hmm?  Can you say "permanent ban"?  I knew that you could.    Seriously, the demoncrats are the party of the gun grabbers, and if they were in power we'd be hearing about gun laws daily.  How about a federal ban on .50 rifles?  The demoncrats would have already passed that into law by now.  When the demoncrats are in power, the gun grabbers are emboldened and empowered.  With Republicans in power the gun issue just sort of fades into the background, which is fine with me.  Sure, I'd love to see a true patriot start the rollback of all the unconstitutional gun laws at the federal level, but I'm not holding my breath waiting for him.

So, rant on, hopefully rant in some letters to our useless Ohio RINOs, but on election day hold your nose and do what is best for the cause.  I know what you're saying, though.

I agree with you about Democrats, I do.

It's the reason that for all my adult life I've voted for turncoat Republican turds like Taft and Voinovich. Both, as it turns out, have proven to be anti-gun, or at least have voted that way. Whala, voting the right way, and getting the wrong effect.

Just sick of the 2 party system, completely sick of it. I hate having to choose between bad and worse.

Well, the more I here about Blackwell, the more I like him, would also be the first Black Gubernor, I can here the Dims now;)

Well, as there are no other choices to get Dewine out, I guess I'll go that route, I'm not big on crossing party lines but was prepared to do it, if we had a pro-gun Dim.

Thanks for those that have posted, this will be my first time voting, so I want to get it right;)

Well, all you can do is study up on the candidates history, hope they live up to their campaign promises, and punch the chad.

Then hope for the best.

<cough, governer Taft, cough>

Sheldon,

The more important vote is not between Blackwell and a democrat in the general election, but rather for Blackwell against Petro and others running against him in the Republican primary.  The same can be said for DeSwine and Voinabitch.

I wrote a note in the last solicitation I received from the Ohio GOP that they would not get another dime from me until they start backing real conservatives again.

ArmdCtzn, et al...

I certainly understand your view, but at some point we need to take the party back.  If we can't get a solid GOP candidate through the primary process it may be time for a radical change.  Overthrow the RINOs and maybe the GOP will listen and back solid candidates.  I don't know...it's certainly a tough decision...many did just that during Bush 41's re-election bid and voted the Perot ticket to send a message.  As we are all painfully aware, that put us squarely into eight years of Klinton...like I said, it's not an easy decision but sometimes we need to suffer through some pain to achieve the greater long term goal.

Look at the bright side...at least Shaft is getting a long overdue and well deserved boot.

Join the NRA or GOA both groups rate the canidates and mail election alerts to you. I am a 1 issue voter  (second ammendment ) . and find these reports helpful. The way the NRA dose it they send a survey to every canidate and the canidate gets a grade on his response or lack of response in some cases. The NRA compiles the data and puts it in the hands of its members.
The Gun Owners of America has a online list of  voting records of the house and senate for each state and federal congress.

I guess one could argue that by not voting for anyone on the ballot means less votes for someone like Taft. It's sort of a gamble that you hope a Repub. still get's into office over a anti-gun Demo., but also let's the Repub's know that you won't give them your vote when they see less votes coming their way. That combined with common sense letters to them about gun rights may all add up in the big picture. Of course, it wouldn't work unless many of us used this strategy...but not too many of us to where the office went to a Demo!

Just my 2¢,
Cincylance

PS - My wording above makes it sound like I am anti-Democrat. I am not. I am against the "far left." To prove my point, I'd vote either party if the candidate was a proven pro-gunner. I guess it'd be no surprise to many if I told you I've always voted a Repub. ticket.

Voting on a candidates stand and record onissues of importance to you regardless of party lines is usually OK at the state level, because there is often much less entrenchment at the state level.  Also, the Democratic Party at the state level is often more reflective of local values.  For example, many Democrat politicians in many western and midwester states are true 2A believers and will NOT vote the party line if they want to keep their jobs.

It is a COMPLETELY different story at the national level.  No matter how pro-gun a Democrat may be, he will soon find himself marginalized from any political power by his own hard-core socialist anti-gun party leadership in Washington and he WILL end up voting the party line.

The same is true with RINOs.  They find themselves often shut out of the power positions if they do not toe the line on issues, including gun rights.

That is why a vote for douchebags like Voinovich is an acceptable sacrifice.  Because handing control to Democrats in DC is opening the gates of hell for the Second Amendment.  If voting for that Perot asshole (and I am proud to have not) didn't teach us a collective lesson in realpolitik, then nothing I say will.
