The place kinda went to shit last week anyhow.
Everyone fighting and bitching about whether or not we can hate terrorists.
balzac is banned right now.
beekeeper has everyone in an uproar with his iron fisted moderating.

However, GB spoke up, and asked folks to be more specific in which Middle Esterners they'd like to kill, and that would be OK, if it was specific.
He is concerned that he will be getting Homeland Defense subpoenas, or something.
I can understand that.  It's easy for us to say, who cares, let them subpoena you all they want.
Who wants to be intentionally scrutinized by the feds? Not GB, apparently.  Not me, either.
I was gonna point them in JME's direction, anyhow.

I remember a thread in which he was responding to you. HE said something to the affect of "who fuck are you anyway?". People like that always leave a sour taste in my mouth. In my mind it was if he said "who are you to even speak to me? Ive been here way longer than you and people know me!"

Who is balzack anyway?Do you care if he's banned? Is it because other people care? To me hes another hot head that cusses alot in his threads. His temper tantrim got the best of him. It kind of pisses me off that when he was put on time out like glimmerman by aimless his account was unlocked and Mikes wasnt.

Sometimes this place is a circus. Like a big cat and the all kittens are fighting thier way to get to the tit.
Im glad those people usually show their colors so I know who they are.

He's made silly comments to me before.
He's made some good comments to me before.
He took the time to explain the pros and con's of some optics to me before.
What do you expect, I get involved in some stupid threads?
He seems like an OK guy.
I usually read what he has to say.

And I forgot MickeyMouse quitting.
He's IM'd me several times offering to help with various info, services, etc...
But, I'm sure GM knows about that uproar from pre-ban.

eta: I care that he was banned, not for who he is, but what he said.
I can abide by the rules here.  I chose to join.  I chose to accept their conditions.
But they seem to have changed/intensified the way they are looking at comments all of the sudden.

I dont know him but his reply to your post rubbed me wrong. Maybe Im too thin skinned.

I dont understand why people cant grasp the idea that a buisiness does not want to be associated with with comments like the ones he was locked for. Alot of people including me are sick of the US military having their hands tied by the government in regards to incidents like Feluja and other places because were worried about respecting muslims in a holy place. But level heads prevail and you dont win support by saying "kill everyone of those sandniggers".

You also dont gain support of newcommers and people we hope to educate about our love of the right to bare arms with that kind of talk. You know all the stereotypes the antis have. Why give them fuel for their fire? When people talk like that it alienates us and strengthens the stereotype.

A websight this big that wants to grow and bring new people in can not afford to let people say whatever they want to and Im glad they dont. I hope everyone involved with the latest beheadings die a slow agonzing death too but wishing it on people who happen to be the same race and religion is irriational and foolish.

You cant imagine the brain washing countries like Iran, Iraq, China and noth Korea impose on their citizens or the consequences you will face if you dont abide by their line of thinking. Genicide on people who know no other way to think would be the opposite of what the United States is all about. It would turn the rest of the world against us especially out current allies in the war. You cant win wars long term going on emotional instinct.

Its easy to show outrage in the confines of this private domain. I think some people push the limits when theyve racked up a post count and some time on the board and think theyre "special". Being special may buy you some time but you'll conform one way or the other in the end.

But thats just my take on it

Trust me I heard all about it over at pre-ban. Must be at least five threads.

That JME guy is a real criminal. I mean think about all the barrels he's threaded!!!

I've had my pee pee smacked over comments I've made, so I'm a nice boy now. For the most part I'll stay out of the charged debates in GD because of that. This is the first and only place I've ever gotten the boot at, and I'm on a ton of forums. So, to me at least, the mods here are more protective than most. That's fine, it's their sandbox. I really shouldn't depend on a single forum for all my vitriolic spew anyway. I'm here to talk guns and make friends and when I stick to that I'm fine.

Anyway, f**k those rag head motherf**kers and I want to kill them all right now.

Glad you're back Glimmer.

Balzac is also a deputy District attorney in NYC who let an Ohioan go for having a handgun in his luggage at JFK.  A felony under NY law.  IMHO he gets all the leeway he wants for that act of kindness.

Completely forgot  that one.
He also said that they were happy to have his help, and would come to him on more firearms related issues that were too complicated for someone without extensive firearms understanding to work through.

I understand that, though..... There is no freedom of speach here. There is no ARFCOM Constitution.  It's privately  owned, and we choose to participate.  The issue right now is some folks are re-thinking whether they want to choose to participate because some mods (specifically thebeekeeper1) have been tearing through threads, editing stuff out and warning people not to say that.  I suspect he is doing what he feels is in the best interest in the site.  Not because he's on a power trip.  But the Avilas would have to see how things are becoming very strained.  From GB's posts, I think he feels it will play out soon.

I still think this is the best place on the net for firearms info, and wouldn't trade it for all the world.  If it ever got out of control, I suspect that most would just leave the GD.

So balzac does deserve more leeway than glimmerman and others when it comes to violating the conduct code?

I understand that members have close ties to staff and moderators and do good things outside of arfkom but from what Ive read he was warned. I think if you let people say the first thing that comes to their mind at the height of their anger without giving them limitations it turns into a shit fest because then the next guy comes along and agrees and adds some more and it multiplies. Then it spreads to arguments and people start threatening each other. With a webiste this big I wouldnt want to take a chance on that.

Maybe Im wrong though. Wouldnt be the first time, wont be the last

It's a complicated issue, any way you look at it. You want the freedom to say what  you want, but then you also can't have the site turn into a mudslinging free-for-all, which is exactly what would happen without consistent moderation. There's the word tho....consistency.

I got the boot for making a joke, a bad one, but a joke none-the-less. In that same week I read comments far worse than mine that were left alone, so I should have felt like I was unjustly picked upon. But, ya know, it's a site adminstered by humans trying to do their best. In the end, it's up to be to be a good poster more than it is for the mods to be even handed and perfect. That's asking alot.

In any case, I enjoy this site. It's one of the funner places to hang out but it's also just a web site. I don't take any of it seriously. It's just 0's and 1's. There are bigger issues in my world than ARF's social climate. Take for instance my addiction to german scat porn. Now there's something you can sink your teeth into.

glimmerman's case was a hard one to defend.
He had a great point, though.  lling pre-bans were ripping people off bad.
But, there were "time-outs being administered right down the replies to that thread.
Aimless had already locked 2 accounts by the time glimmerman got locked.
I don't know for certain if they were all done at once, or over the period of a couple hours, as folks "piled on"
So, I certainly agreed with his sentiment, but I suspect he knew what he was getting into.

As far as the direction of this thread, I never really disputed whether balzac should have been banned.  I was only stating it as a matter of fact, and an indicator of how things were going.  I suspect he was warned via IM several times beforehand.  If that is the case, it would be hard to argue against the way it was handled.

I completely missed that until you went and quoted it.  Thanks.
Thanks a bunch.

If I wouldn't have to see it all the time, that would be a good sigline.
With proper credit being given to the author, of course.  I'm sure swingset wouldn't want people going around using that like it was their own.

I'd love for my scat line to grace someone's every post. Usually I only get quoted in anger, so pointing out my strangeness would be refreshing.
