What if we can organize a class full of ARFCOM members? (Toledo Area) I'm a NRA certified pistol instructor, and I’m getting stuff together for CCW classes. If there is any interest I could get an early class in of the gang here.
I just have to wait and see what certificates the sheriff will accept. I have the license to teach the pistol course, which covers everything listed at http://www.ohioccw.org/files/HB12-final2004.pdf on pg 55. So hopefully its good to go. steve |

I'm in.
edited to add: I know of a few family and friends that would also be interested. |
Anybody in the Cincinnati area qualified to conduct the training? I'm thinking myself the wife and possibly daughter will all be attending.
If anyone around cleveland is going to hold a course count me in. I'll just keep watching on www.ofcc.net/ unless I hear some replies on here.
I'd probably be willing to come up from Columbus.
Any chance of making it a weekend class? One day Saturday or Sunday would probably be good for folks who have to travel, if there is much interest in an ARF class. |
If there isn't one organized in the Cleveland area, I'd probably be willing to commute.
Bigbore, The NRA Pistol Instructor Certification seems to cover all the requirements of the law from what I've read. Actually, it looks like the training requirements were based on that class to me. If you hear any difference, please post here, and I will do the same.
Thanks |
I would be interested in a course around the Cleveland/Akron area. Or a road trip, within a few hours.
Being in the Columbus area I'd be willing to travel if the class was on a weekend. I'm sure New Albany will be having classes but they just tick me off with the snooty attitudes.
Me too. |
Cyanide, go to www.ofcc.net, and you can find a completed text of the law. Go to page 54, section G, and it will tell ya what's required for the training. Page 47, section D refers to Military Personel, that might help ya out too.
Edited to correct wrong link |
Plateshooter, your link sucks. It sent me to the Odin First Christian Church.
The CORRECT link is www.ohioccw.org/. |

I spoke with a higher ranking officer in the Lucas County Sheriffs Dept. today about training. He told me it hasn't even been brought up for discussion yet. Figures, the Sheriff doesn't have to make any of that info available until the law goes into effect. I trust this guy will keep me informed the best he can for Lucas County.
The Sheriffy Deputies who end up handeling the CCW stuff are really going to get the short end of the stick on this deal. They just got a bunch more work to do, and no extra help or money to do it with. |
Aint that the truth! They'll probably overcharge too. That, and w/ the small size of their facility, the list will be a mile long by the apps are starting to be accepted. I'd love to travel to toledo fot the class, but I can't get sat/sun off...just saturday....is the class required to be 12hrs still? |
New Albany is already scheduling classes at $150 a pop. I stopped by there during my lunch hour Friday and heard them say that they had already sold out some classes. The Powder Room is also setting up classes, not sure what they cost, but at least you won't have to deal with the New Albany attitude.
Powder Room has their own version of attitude, though. I'm not a big fan of them either. I wish Vance's had a range and taught classes...I'd sign up in a heart beat. |
Red-Leg, In the Cincinnati area, Target World in Sharonville will be providing training. The schedule and cost should be available in 1-2 weeks as soon as the lease on more training area is complete. Phone number is 513.772.3343
Probably not. Dont know if it works like this everywhere, but in my county, any and all money the SO takes in goes back into the General Fund, so that the county commissioners can steal it easier. I wish it went to the SO. Our county commissioners slashed the budget for every county office by 6% from last years budget (they can steal more from the county this way), so our sheriff will have a choice between keeping cars on the road, or giving employees a pay raise. Give ya one guess what he'll choose. |
I would be interested in the class. I think it would be a great chance to put a face to the names of board members. Do you have any idea when(day or night, one day or a couple) and where. How much? I know Clevelands is already taking names for classes. I would rather support a ar15.com member. I live outside of BG so drive time is not a big deal. Will you be at the BG gun show this weekend?
I would be interested in a Toledo class. I am local to the area, weekends or weekends are fine as I can burn a few days at work.
I dont yet know when the classes will be or when they'll start. Right now I'm looking for a rage. The only range I have access to will only allow 2 shooters at a time. Anyone local have a range in your back yard that we could use to poke holes in paper for a couple hours?
my generic class schedule will be posted here www.adcofirearms.com/ccw |
LeasureShoot. The permit costs $45(max) and is payed to the sheriff. The training cost will be whatever the trainer wants to charge or the market will bear.

Correct. I was responding to the comment that the sheriffs get the short end of the stick, with the added administrative duties. My point was they get extra funding, but it sounds like the county might suck it up. Sounds about right.
Yeah, the S.O. will do all the work and the county will decide if the sheriff deserves to get to keep any for his budget. Sounds normal to me.

I don't find that Bill & gang have much of an attitude at all. I like them all there alot, they seem really easy going. Their classes are going to be $100, IIRC. |
i will be holding classes for the ohio ccw, taught by 3 nra certified instructors, and a sherrifs detective, one day, 12 hour class, will be held always on a saturday, we have a range and a hall, cost should be 75 bucks, no higher than 80, and will not increase, we have been doing the classes for 3 years now, and will be doing toledo and surrounding areas, if you would like to drive up let me know, arfcom members will be getting a discount of 10 bucks

jkakjk, has been gracious enough to let the shooting part of class be taught on his property. I forgot to ask if he has a garage or something for the classroom part??
I still dont have enough info to get things going yet, but the initial plan now is to charge $75 per person, I keep $25, jkakjk gets $25 for his trouble, and the other $25 gets donated in the attendees names to ARFCOM. Thoughts? |
Steve, I do have an attached and insulated 2 car garage. Just so everybody knows the range is flat Ohio farmland with a good pile of dirt for a backstop. You are exposed to the elements. In short, its not pretty but it gets the job done.
Actually, not according to the Bill. The money is earmarked for CCW issuance expenses.
Sounds like all or a portion of the CCW Permit Fee will be used solely to fund the extra man power needed to handle the operation. The House/Senate would have been retarded to create such a controversial bill, AND, instead of using the money for funding the operation, they take the money and run. Their sole platform with the CCW bill has been public safety, not profit. I don't give politicians a lot of credit, but they're not that dumb. |

jkakjk where in ohio are you?
So when is the class going to be? Since its outside are we going to do closer to spring when it gets warmer or what? |
It will be April before the State relases the packets, and lets anyone know what exactly they will need for training....
Stavman, I live 6 miles east of Bowling Green or 22 miles south of Toledo.
April sounds great. I'm in Lima so I won't have far to come. It will be me and my Fiance taking to the class.
Bigbore,
You know I'm in! (I'll try to round up some other Findlay area "shooters.") Hessian-1 |
Well, there's a price increase for you. By your own rules, you spend $100 every time you see me:-) |
Then why didn't you sell me that BM barrel for $100? Hessian-1out! |

www.ohioccwtraining.org is a great place to start looking for classes. It is an arm of Ohioans For Concealed Carry I will be offering classes in Cincinnati Area, at times and places to be announced. It will be quite inexpensive compared to others.

Dayton area here. would take a day off on the weekend and travel as far as Columbus area if the class could be crammed into 1 day.(current days off are tues and wed. <yep I know it sucks>)
Toledo area here too...I might be interested. Sure sounds like a good idea, as compared to throwing money at the Cleland clan. They already have enough ripping ppl off. The concern I have with this CCW, is are we stuck to one gun? Can we have more than one that we can use, so they can be more clothing specific?
