Over a decade ago when I was a resident of Californiastan, I bought the 5 gallon Crown Berkey and that kept me supplied with good water.  My sister used a Brita countertop fill-as-you-go which was horrible.  She finally got herself a Berkey but instead of the stainless tanks like I have she got the Berkey Light which has plastic upper and lower.  For some reason the stainless ones are verboten.  Anybody know why?

I can take a guess based on other folks having trouble with selling things to CA.

We have these crazy nanny state laws that say products must be marked for Prop 65, which amounts to just about everything can cause cancer.

A few times in the last few years, these bureaucrats in Sacramento budgeted for their staff to scour sites like this to learn what we buy.

The purpose was to threaten little outfits and mid-cap outfits so they wouldn't sell to us. They use it as a political weapon.

The difference mounts to a sticker that warns you about Prop 65, but it was enough to cause lots of folks headaches when trying to do business.

Many stopped till they got educated on the issue and learned how easy it was to mark their stuff and go.

Now, I am just guessing based on patterns, but since I have seen their stainless tanks here already, I suspect this is what happened. YMMV.

Interesting.  Only the smaller Berkeys are allowed in that fascist state.  My Crown is a no-go.
