I'm in California...

So I'm down to my last few ounces of the Mineral Spirits I used to add
to walnut media to keep dust down, and after going to Lowe's and Home Depot,
I can't find anything labeled "Mineral Spirits" or "Denatured Mineral Spirits".

I see lots of "stuff" in paint department.

What's the new "go to" solution?

( I'm sure "Environmental Concerns" are the culprit here. )

Thanks in advance....

I use NuFinish in my tumbler.

That is very weird.  I don't understand why they don't have it.  Look for "paint thinner".

You want a somewhat volatile liquid (volatile = will evaporate).  Acetone and lacquer thinner are too volatile and will affect the tumbler's plastic bowl.  Denatured alcohol will also work but will need to be replenished more frequently than mineral spirits.

I don't use NuFinish, as it is a wax.

Home Depot does not have it on their web site, so I looked a Lowes -

$15 per gallon

"Paint Thinner Substitute" is very cryptic:

Is it Acetone?

It is Kerosene?

What it IS, is "Extremely Flammable" ! (I see a "Red Flag" there!)

I'll wait for more specific info here, before I buy a gallon of this stuff.

Thanks for the help!

Thanks, but that is the "abrasive" additive, not the "dust" control
part of the formula.

( BTW, I DO use NuFinish, but in corncob media.)

The walnut is my "scrubber" and corncob is my "polisher".

I did not look closely enough, my bad.

"Acetone-based paint thinner substitute effectively thins alkyd paints, enamels, varnishes, epoxies and polyurethanes"

Lowes and Home Depot both have Turpentine in quarts.  That will be much less volatile than acetone but I've never used it in media.

I have one gallon of mineral spirits left.

Walmart seems to have Mineral Spirits in stock.  It seems a trip there is in order.

AHH I guess I should have read the OP a second time.  I missed the walnut part...

NuFinish is a non-abrasive polish.

The South Coast Air Quality Management District is a notoriously tyrannical environmental organization.  They operate by mandate and are largely unchallenged (no checks and balances) in their decision-making.

OP use either BBQ lighter fluid or kerosene type fuel.  Home Depot has both.
