Does anybody have a good place to go shooting in/near Sacto.  I really hate to have to travel so far just to do some shooting.

One of the best facilities on the West Coast.  You are lucky to be so close.  Rifle, pistol, shotgun, silhouette and 1000 yard ranges.  Competitions every weekend along with numerous state, regional and even national championship events.

Your risk is not in shooting at a range with other people. No one will care, range officers don't check to see if you're legal (except for San Mateo Co Park which is run by the county).

Your risk lies in getting stopped for some reason (ticket, accident, etc) and having LE find you with a non CA legal AR type rifle. The transportation/importation violation is worse than the simple possession.

ETA: That said, Sac Valley is one of the better places to go. There are so many black rifles there you would just blend in.
