I would think that they could detain you if they had reason to suspect that you had commited a crime.

But I also think as long as you've got American ID or a green card they're going to move on.

The BLM rangers I've talked with were more concerned on how you were shooting rather than what rifle was doing the shooting. As long as you're up against a backstop and are cleaning up your brass and trash they're fine.
