Read the BS our political opponents are saying about Schwartzenegger's signing of AB50, .50 BMG rifles and the .50 BMG cartridge. These people are seriously defrauding the public. I mean that - FRAUD. Why doesn't the NRA take them into court for their lies.
For a trivial example, since when is 2,000 yards equal to four miles?
Or this, they are a serious threat to national security. BTW, what BATF report states this, no reference is given?

California Becomes First State To Ban High-Powered Weapons
Sacramento, CA - California became the first state to ban the sale of armor-piercing .50 caliber sniper rifles as Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed AB 50 by Assemblyman Paul Koretz (D-West Hollywood). The bill was sponsored by the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence united with the Million Mom March and supported by law enforcement, but gun lobby organizations including the National Rifle Association (NRA) opposed it.
"We applaud Gov. Schwarzenegger for his leadership in banning high-powered .50 caliber sniper rifles because they would pose such a threat in the hands of criminals and terrorists," said Julissa Jose of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence united with the Million Mom March. "Armor-piercing .50 caliber sniper rifles are designed and used by our military in combat, but they have no place in California neighborhoods. This new law is particularly important because President Bush recently allowed the federal ban on assault weapons to expire. Thanks to Gov. Schwarzenegger and the state legislature, California will continue to lead the country with safe, sensible gun laws."
Accurate at up to 2,000 yards (20 football fields end-to-end), the .50 caliber sniper rifles can inflict effective damage to targets over four miles away and have more power on impact then any other semi-automatic rifle legally available in California. The high-powered .50 caliber sniper rifles represents a serious threat to law enforcement and national security.
Manufacturers of the .50 caliber sniper rifles tout the weapons as capable of "destroying multimillion dollar aircraft with a single hit" and useful to attack "parked aircraft, radar sites, ammunition, petroleum and various thin-skinned material targets."
According to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Government Accountability Office, .50 caliber sniper rifles have a dangerous history of use by criminals, foreign drug cartels and international terrorists. In a report on the weapons, GAO investigators concluded that, "the accessibility of these weapons in the United States is becoming known worldwide."
