Local school board decided tonight to go against Governor’s orders.

Masks required on Monday. (PreK-8th) The delay is to allow parents to get a medical exemption if needed (we will not be pursuing this option) It’s being sold as a “2 week” effort. I think we’ve all grown wise to the bait & switch.

Wife is on FB, we’re trying to organize and present a unified front, and let others know that we will not comply, and they will not stand alone. I think a first hand lesson on civics and civil disobedience will be some of the finest education they’ll receive this year.

My son is all jazzed up to be a rebel, he comes by it honestly. My girl, quite honestly, is most likely just looking forward to the eventual suspension or expelled.

Now I’ve got to school the kids on the challenge/response they’ll need to stand their ground in the face of teachers/administrators. I’m thinking “Stop bullying me!” will be a central element in the response, hopefully one that’ll trigger a lot of the “bullying” conditioning that has been drilled in at school. (Guerrilla tactic FTW)

Reference to EO 21-175 will be a keystone as well in the response, to make it clear the nature of resistance.

I’ve got to keep it a relatively simple, straightforward, stonewall of non compliance. The kids have their position, but I’m sure administrators will try to out maneuver them since we’re talking 6,8 graders that aren’t quite as articulate as an adult. I’m drilling the importance of keeping it very “clean” and focused, and don’t let yourself get trapped into a suspension via disruption in class, or *any* other viable reason for discipline.

I realize there’s already legal challenges in the wind at other districts; but we’re doing our part to make it a fight on all fronts, and let it be understood that we’ll be at school, not in compliance, unless suspended or expelled.

Indian River

Has the mandate kicked in there yet?
I’m not sure what backlash to expect, and what kind of disciplinary tools they have, or will be willing to use.

Told the kids to spend the next few days making some new, like minded friends. Build a network, and make sure to get contacts. (so involved parents can coordinate in the backfield)

They've kick both a school and county-wide mandate.

The county-wide one we're ignoring. Nothing they can do to us.
The school mandate is being fought by the parents. I'm not a parent, but I'm supporting them as best I can.

This BS never ends until mass civil disobedience ends it.  Another article released yesterday showing masks on kids does nothing.

The local school super did a video today, trying to stir up the fearful.
We’ll see Monday how much of the resistance makes a stand.

I’m just amazed at how long a fear mongering campaign has been effective. FL should be a quiet graveyard by now.

We're constantly told to "follow the science"...

https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/eid/article/26/5/19-0994_article

"Although mechanistic studies support the potential effect of hand hygiene or face masks, evidence from 14 randomized controlled trials of these measures did not support a substantial effect on transmission of laboratory-confirmed influenza."

"There is limited evidence for their effectiveness in preventing influenza virus transmission either when worn by the infected person for source control or when worn by uninfected persons to reduce exposure."

I’ve told the kids not to discuss the science, effectiveness, immunity, etc when it comes to the eventual conflict.
Stick with “pursuant to EO 21-175, here’s a note from my parents”

DeSantis has given us a solid golden egg here, so we’re riding it all the way

I don’t have any skin in the game…. yet, as my daughter is only 10 months. What if as many people as could. Enrolled their kids in virtual school citing the mask requirement. I know Hillsborough offers it. If enough kids are doing online school they’ll eventually have to start cutting teachers as they won’t need as many. I think a lot of this is lib teachers pushing masks as much as Karens. I’m glad DeSantis isn’t backing down on this one.

My kid went to school in person all last year. Per school board policy we were notified of every positive covid case for a student/teacher. I only remember getting three calls last year for the entire year. My kiddo has been back in school for over a month now, without mask, and we still haven't received any calls of positive cases.

I'm not a denier, but I keep hearing of entire schools being shut down and whatnot. I have no clue how my podunk little county is the odd man out.

Still waiting for “that call” from the school.

Resistance is extremely light in person, but there’s a lot of kids missing in class.

Jr. has presented a lawyer prepared explanation and parental permission pursuant to 21-175 on 2 occasions, so I’m not sure if the school is taking the path of least resistance, or if they’re sizing up the opposition.

I get the feeling they’re not keen on following through with suspensions, and are busy sizing up a full shutdown. Two schools in the county have closed this far.

In addition, the school has recently received a love letter from the State.  No word yet on how the county responded Attachment Attached File

Our school sends out weekly updates for cases and daily emails for any positive cases in our kids classes. Was notified just a few hours ago that my younger daughters entire class is now quarantined due to multiple positives reports from her class this past week.

Can come back in a week if she wears a mask or 2 weeks without a mask. She will go back in two weeks without a mask like she has for the previous 6 weeks or so. Other daughter can still go back with no restrictions... no idea the thought process there, but whatever.

This is a private school.
