Sheesh. A few guys at work turned me on to Florida Gun Trader and I did some surfing around trying to find a Trijicon ACOG TA31F. I found one and contacted the seller. He was local and I made an offer and told him I had cash in hand and lets do this. He agreed but then "over" politely asked for a deposit of $200 up front through PP and some other site. Hmmm, this is suppose to be a face to face which he agreed to. WTF. A little back and forth and I got the feel I was talking to someone dictating a script. I said NOPE, blocked his email and contacted FGT on the issue. Fast forward to this evening and I find another listing which is in my home town. No problem, I emailed the guy and he agreed to my cash in hand face to face offer. I even suggested we meet at the County Sheriff's Office parking lot (happens to where my office is ). He agrees and then, boom, asks for a friggin deposit with the EXACT wording as the gut from two weeks ago! WTF??? Again I said nope, blocked him and reported it. This time around I called one of our fraud detectives and gave him the skinny on what happened. Seems like he had a few other guys we work with reporting the same thing. Anyone else encountering this?

All the scammers from Armslist had to go somewhere after they started charging.
Whoever runs FL Gun Trader doesn't care about policing their site either. The flag button doesn't even do anything. At least it's simple enough to weed out the scammers. If anyone offers to ship or asks for a deposit, it's not legit. |

Lol, while there are plenty of legit ad's, damn the scammers are thick on that site. Had an scammer say, just send me a money order and I with ship the pistol right to your house ...sure you will. Saw something I wanted posted in Orlando, asked for a FTF as I was going north for a day and the guy replies he's in Miami. Just my luck I told him as I was going to be in Miami the next day, asked where he'd like to meet...crickets.

Fuck that site. I created an account and posted a pistol for sale, payed the couple extra dollars to post multiple photos got it all set up. Went back a few hours later and was locked out. My password didnt work. No way to retrieve/reset I could find and the email to the customer support went unanswered.

I've been using FGT for years now. I've had a couple weird encounters but it's been mostly positive. My three deal-breakers are cash only, FTF, and FLDL as proof of residence. Scammers are usually easy enough to spot just from the member since date or stock photos and sketchy grammar/syntax.
I think the two sketchiest ones were the underage guy who (unsuccessfully) tried to talk me into selling to him anyway and the guy who tried to assure me it wasn't a big deal to wave the SKS I was buying from him around a gas station parking lot by pulling out and waving his carry gun around too. Nice guy other than that at least |

I've been buying and selling on there for 10 years, never had one problem.

Yes, there are a lot of scammers, but if it’s too good to be true it probably is. Plus you can check the IP address location ( it’s the little Red Crosshairs looking thing ), if it originated from Germany or Gana it’s probably a scam. Also join date is shown as well, a relatively new join date could mean scam also.
I’ve had at least 15 deals buying, and selling without issue. |

What are ya'll using for FTF firearms sales besides FGT? Just the EE?
|
|
I have bought and sold on FGT for years and have had success. There are a lot of scammers on there now, more than usual. Had a good laugh on the site today, there is a listing for 68 rounds of Black Talons for the low price of $450.00.

I've gotten some good deals off FL Gun Trader. You just have to wade through the signal to noise ratio.

I sold two pistols on there cheap a few years ago. Cop showed up to buy it and seemed irritated that I wasn't a criminal. Weird shit.

I sold 2 handguns and a lower receiver FTF on there last year. No problems.
Guys all had valid DLs and matching LTCs. Cash was green and passed the marker test. Now, trying to buy a Garand on there has been a different story. Found 5 different sellers listing different guns. And every one of them was a scam. |

I have had some good dealings on there but I agree, a lot of weirdos lately. The are a couple jerks on the site but there are many good people. I used to drive an hour or two for a deal but not a chance now, as many people try to scam or screw with you about what you have on there and make plans to meet you that they either can't keep or had no plans to begin with.

not had that there, but its happened on ebay when selling. even though I specifically put no third party, no ship first etc. and no scammers. anything over like $30 it would happen.
that sounds like a textbook scam right there. maybe a spoof number they give to. |

View Quote I've noticed a pattern with some of the sellers; usually their site name is a first name and 4 numbers, they registered within the past 2 weeks, their price is 10-20% below others. I've emailed a couple of them about various Glock's and the email bounces back. Not sure what their purpose is but something definitely not right. I've never had an issue there when I'm the seller though. |

I often ask myself "why are those people here? does anybody really falls for their BS? then I realized, if the scammers are here, is because they have clients...
yesterday one asked me, are you a serious buyer? I answered "no, I'm actually a comedian" |

Its gotten progressively worse in the last few months.
Ammo prices are ridiculous. All the “great deals” are from accounts days old. Obvious scammers. |

Was told every morning there's a line before they open and everything (regardless of caliber) gets sucked up. They told me the previous Saturday they had over 200 people in line before opening...to get 2 boxes of ammo each, or 1 bulk pack if it's in. |

I've had pretty good luck on FGT selling some guns for the new house fund.
Haven't purchased anything in a few years. Does anyone know how to bump your ad back to the first page? |

So as of tonight it is acockalypse over there, with a mix of shit photos thrown in. FGT seems to be a GD wet dream, no one is in charge, or they dont care.
If there are any south Florida web boards worth a look someone let me know. |

I was looking at Berettas and have found the same photo for Jacksonville area Orlando area and Miami area. Same gun same photo different prices. And the phone number was from N Carolina

My general rule of thumb (personal experience) is that I only respond to ads that have the phone number listed in the actual text. I can figure out pretty quick if its legit after that. And anyone who tells you they will ship is just not worth my time. Ill just go to my LGS if I'm that desperate to get hosed! Speaking of LGS..... Jacksonville / St Augustine peeps: who is your go to for used weapons for decent prices and good quality? I try not to buy new. |

I actually bought my ruger 57 there new... against my better judgment (and by that I mean my wife's better judgement.) That crosshairs IP address thing is useless. I’m in Collier and it shows mine in Venice,Fl.

If it's not a face to face deal, it's a no go for myself, that said within the past 8 months I acquired several very nice buys but it certainly took some weeding through the bs to find them.

Guys its easy to be scammed everywhere, just need to watch out for this simple rules:
1 never ever, ever never send money....... 2 check to see if the person has a new (newish) account 3 check the crosshairs to verified where they actually are (some use HMA but the vast majority are amateurs and will show "Africa") 4 ask gun questions like "is this an AR15 model M4, M5 or the latest M6?" (answer: dude fuck you theres no M5 nor M6 he's legit) scammer will say the latest. 5 Never leave your home without speaking with the person on the phone. 6 and the easiest to confirm a scam: copy the title of their post, open another window and paste the title with quotes: "Beretta 92 FS 9mm DA/SA semi-auto pistol" if its a scam it will show as a Gunbroker real auction... check it out: FGT scammer Link Gunbroker real link |

I think most of us here know a scam when we see one. And I am happy for those who have found good deals there I truly am. But neither of those are what we are talking about.
When I see a Tavor for $600 I just breeze by. When I am trying to look at gun ads and I am looking at gay porn and photos people taking a shit right on the ad page, well that is something different. The management doesn’t care, maybe they never did, maybe it got too big. but whatever the reason porn, shit, and personal fights are welcome. I guess a listing fee is a listing fee. That will probably work out well for those of you who will just put up with it and have less competition for the good deals, but I have to think that a lot of potential sellers see those things and just head on over to gunbroker, or the local dealer, or some other local board I have not found yet. But I am looking for it. |

Check out the 1971 Python with a 2 1/2” barrel and factory stag grips for $1800.00 . The gun is worth twice that . IP address comes up Nigeria .
I’ve reported it about a half dozen times but the ad is still up . |
