It looks like this. 600 yards of compacted fill (30 truck loads) for my home 100 yard rifle & pistol range It's a start, I need another 270 loads to be where I want

I wonder if my HOA would allow me to build my own range ....  I can probably get a 15 yard range if I use the side wall of my neighbors house as a backstop ...

The bulldozer guy is gonna be back out today, going to have him push up the RH ramp and make the berm more 'L' shaped to give me a little more room for pistol work and multiple friends on the line.

Told the wife re. the cost & mid-life crisis etc, "Some men crave a sports car & a beautiful new girl, a tricked out Harley, a fancy boat, vacation home, RV or an airplane. I don't want or need any of that, honey, all I want is a big pile of dirt in my back yard to call my own." Of course being able to shoot 100 yards from two directions is a big plus and you can't see it from the house. My neighbor has cows & horses in the pasture behind the berm so it's a safety issue for him as well, plus he likes to shoot too and donated a shooting bench to the project.

Had the guy tweak a little to give me some more room. Plus the ramp allows me to add more dirt with the tractor as it comes available.

Yeah, it's one of those situations where if I had the money, I could have done it over night. Since I didn't, it was a matter of telling begging everyone I know, all the contractors we deal with, pool installers, friends, neighbors, anyone who remotely did anything with dirt that I wanted all they could haul. Missed out on two previous opportunities. First ten loads came about 2 years ago then I lucked up and found someone nearby putting in a pond and got another 20 loads. The dirt was free, I paid to have it hauled and for the dozer work but it was substancially less than had I just called up someone to have it done.  Problem seems to be when I mention I'm building a shooting berm, they don't seem to understand the magnitude of my dream, They think a pile of dirt to shoot a rifle into, I want a 270 degree field of fire where I can spin on my heel while hammer down on a M16 with a betamag without killing any horses or cows

Chuck are you hosting the Botter Shoot next year?

Very nice Chuck.  I'd love to have my own personal range one day.

Any chance you could have a retention pond dug out of your property and use that dirt, instead of having to buy it by the truckload?

I could, problem is I'd have to have an inspection and permit from Suwannee River Water Management and from the County to put in a pond. After the pure unadulterated hell I went thru to get an ag building permit, I'd rather not involve the county in anything.

Sorry folks, not quite big enough for a Botter shoot, but when it is

Now the question is whether you've gotten rid of that oak tree you wanted to remove and how close is it to the berm?
