See, that was the one I was saying gave me a bad feeling. My guess is coming up to make land just north of Ft. Pierce, and crossing the state.

Hanna was supposed to hit S Fl too, now they are saying Wilmington NC before landfall. Me and Osprey21 been here since '62(don't that make us, kinda like brothers?) and I say somewhere north of Jax before landfall.

Personally I don't give a shit, I'll be patrolling cooler waters next week. I ain't got no shutters to put up, soooooooo.....

Andrew was originally forecast to head to Central/North Fla then took a left hook.

I'm pretty calm about storms like this.   I never though Hanna would amount to much as far as Florida was concerned, and I'm right so far.  It's just a little breezy outside now, here on the east coast near Melbourne.

But Ike...no, sir, I don't like Ike.   That's definitely one to watch...and even make plans for.

Jeanne was the most intense hurricane I've been through.  Winds hit 100 MPH over
my house,  for a little bit.  Damage to my house was confined to the screened pool
enclosure, and some fence damage.  So the enclosure got replaced and I built a new fence.

Jeanne did do a lot of damage but I wouldn't hesitate to ride out another of the same strength.

But past that...it might be a good time to go visit the family farm property up in northern Alabama for a few days.

Great... looks like maybe I can get some OT out of this. Maybe the PD will pay me again. Damn... it sucks that I need a major hurricane to get some money in my pocket. Hopefully I won't need that money to rebuild my house.

As strange as this sounds, I am hoping Ike hits my house and levels it.  That way I can declare a total loss and start over.  Who knows, I might find a job because it, if not, I will at least be busy rebuilding.

I was able to get my house rented before I left for Texas, but this idea has merit for me as well.  Not that I think Punta Gorda has much chance of getting hit like it did with Charlie from Ike.

When I 1st moved back the FL from the west coast (OR/WA), I couldn't wait for the 1st hurricane that came through. I always remembered them as being real exciting as a kid and I guess that kind of stuck with me.

Fast forward to 2005.

I now view them a lot differently and Ike has me a little concerned. It's looking like a true ripper of a storm and projected to be a Cat 4 by the time it gets to FL. I hope it heads off in any other direction, but as it stands now, next week is going to be pretty eventful for a lot of the state.

Get your ducks in a row as much as possible guys, food, fuel (the ammo you should have already), and general provisions. There's a good shot a lot of us will be using them.

I'm talking to my boss about putting together an emergency radio system from our stock
of rental radios (several hundred radios available) and having them ready for rental to
any public safety agencies in the affected areas that lose their primary communications
system.   We can deploy a simple but effective system "same day" if needed,  and
just need some generator power access so the customer can keep the portable radio
batteries charged and also provide power to the repeaters.

Disaster recovery is a big business opportunity.

It looks like it could still impact SW Florida (Collier, Lee, and Charlotte counties). I hope it goes for NOLA, but I am going to get things together this weekend.

YA! and my generator is broke
fuck it, it don't matter

I worked the fridge down to empty because
I'm having the house rewired and power will
be off for a while anyway just a bit longer than I thought
Say three months? that is how long it was after Andrew
and now gas is $4 it would cost an arm and leg to run it,
maybe we won't get it, think good thoughts

not a lot more I could do to be prepared.  Things will be as they will be.  I just hope for as little loss of life, and as little property damage as possible.

I already got my guys booked up working till the winds hit 35-45mph.  Then they have to be pulled off the road for liability reasons.  People are already freaking out down here.  There going to start evac's this weekend.  Sounds bad but this may help the slumping economy.
