I didnt see anything about carrying in a hospital. Can you carry in a hospital? What if there is a sign posted "no guns."

Quick qestion, I'm looking at buying a house in FL. One of the ones I'm looking at is near a high school (you can see it from the house) but not on school porperty. Having any of my guns in that house is good to go right? Don't want to buy a place and then find out I can't store my rifles there...

I've read through this post and also through Gutmacher's book and I can't find an answer to my question. Is it legal to carry in a mental health clinic (not an inpatient hospital)? I read the part about hospitals and I wasn't sure if that applied in this case. I work in the mental health field (psychologist) and I'd feel a lot safer carrying while working around those who are not on meds or whose medications are not adequately controlling their mental disorders. Thanks in advance and I know the laws aren't always black and white, especially after reading Gutmacher's book, but any opinions from those more familiar than the laws than me would be greatly appreciated.

(b) It is unlawful to transmit to, or attempt to transmit to, or cause or attempt to cause to be transmitted to, or received by, any patient of any hospital providing mental health services under this part any article or thing declared by this section to be contraband, at any place which is outside of the grounds of such hospital, except as authorized by law or as specifically authorized by the person in charge of such hospital. (2) A person who violates any provision of this section commits a felony of the third degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082, s. 775.083, or s. 775.084. Hmm, i guess it depends on what is considered a "hospital" and the laws definition of it. |

Thanks for the info. That's basically how I understood it, it all comes down to what is the definition of a "hospital"? All that legal-ese is like a foreign language to me. I guess that's why I went into the mental health field instead.

'I may be waaaay overthinking this, but what do questions 4a & 4b mean? I keep talking myself in circles.
4a) Do you qualify for exemption from the public records law as provided by Section 119.071(4)(d), Florida Statutes? 4b) If yes, do you wish to have this information kept confidential? I'm guessing the normal answer to 4a is "yes", but the wording in the instructions has me confused. Too much talk about exemptions and exceptions to exemptions. 
I'd like to keep my info confidential, so "yes" for 4b would be appropriate? |

Since a person between the ages of 18-21 is prohibited from purchasing a handgun through a dealer, and cannot apply for his CCW until the age of 21 - can a person in that gray zone of age:
1. legally transport a loaded handgun? 2. can it be concealed in a console or glovebox (as anyone of CCW age can do)? 3. if so, must it be in a snap holster or zippered rug to be "securely encased"? 4. must that auto compartment be fully closed and latched? 5. should that person carry a copy of FS 790.25 or the complete 790 Statute? 6. how is consent to search vehicles affected? 7. would a "gift letter" explaining the origin of the handgun be helpful since a person in that age cannot fill out a 4473? The above might be important to parents of 18-21 year-olds who have been gifted handguns and have the desire to legally transport loaded handguns. Thanks.  |

There is no legal difference between a 18 yo with a loaded gun and a 60 year old non-CCW holder with a loaded gun. Rules are the same for both. The only difference when it related to guns period is the 18yo cant purchase from an FFL, buy pistol ammo or get a CCW. The other answers you seek are in the OP. |

It is unknown how a LEO will deal with a "common pocket knife" . Read the OP for info about what the law and caselaw says about a "common pocket knife". CWL or not has no influance on if it's legal or not. |

My son, who lives in Tallahasse, went to the local licensing office to get an appointment, which he had the next day.
From then, it took 7 days for it to be in his mailbox. |

Here's one I encountered this week.
Private organization (Shriners, etc) that have a bar. The bar sells to members only. Does this follow the standard "dispense area" of the law? Or is this all considered private property and legal to carry everywhere inside? Curious as I become a member if I can carry inside anywhere, or just in the non-bar area? I really wish they'd rewrite that section and make this a bit more clear. Or just get over it and allow CCW w/permit in bars. |

Notice of Suspension
I got a letter in the mail informing me that my CWL has been suspended based on 'criminal history information' submitted to the dept of licensing. I got charged with crimes I did not commit. I am awaiting a court appearance to get acquitted/ have charges dropped. This letter arrives notifying me that I have 21 days to request a hearing in Tallahassee to dispute the facts of the case and my eligibility for licensure. The problem is I received this notice before I even got a court date. How does the dept. expect me to defy space/time and get an acquittal for them in time if the court isn't even ready to hear my case yet? Hopefully I can get an arraignment before the state's imposed deadline. Just a heads up to you guys with concealed permits, don't get wrongfully arrested for crimes you did not commit because the state will not bother to wait for the final disposition of your charges before suspending your licenses. You are not innocent until proven guilty, you are presumed guilty before you even get arrested. Also, any court documents you will need to provide the state with (not that they shouldn't have access to these records electronically) will cost you a premium to obtain from the courts. The last time I had to obtain court documents they charged something like $7 per sheet. |

Update to prior post:
My license has been reinstated––they had the documents required of me for 25 days before I called to inquire about the status; and they lifted the suspension over the phone when I explained the circumstances. I was told they would mail out my license and reinstatement letter the next week. I received the letter in the mail today, with one caveat: No license. So, I called the dept. back today, explained what transpired, and I should have a duplicate mailed out to me in 7-10 business days. (They lost my license. Go figure.) Not a big deal really, but the point of this story is that you need to maintain a dialogue with the dept. or it is likely that nothing will get accomplished. If I hadn't called on the 10th, my suspension would not have been lifted yet. If I did not call today to 'touch base' regarding the notice of suspension being lifted, I'd still be waiting for my license to show up in the mail. Just a heads up, in case anyone is going through a similar ordeal. |

Say we Winter in FL and the rest of the year elsewhere. Resident or Non-Resident licenses? How about Hunting & Fishing Licenses? |

What's the consensus on picking up an adult or child on school/college grounds (not getting out of car) with a CWP?
Say I need to pick someone up in my car or I'm a passenger in the car of someone who's picking someone else up. Obviously I would not step out of the car on school grounds but am I OK sitting in the car with CCW? |
