Anyone interested who lives in this general area - Or maybe combine with you Central Floridians, if you're not too far away?

I would be interested. I bring no knowlegde to the table but  I can bring tools. I have a press/shear and a few other tools that could be useful.

edit: Im guessing you are talking about AK's if you are Talking about 1911 then I have a Mini Mill and Lathe.

AK builds -

After years of struggle to get my LW Commander 38 Super working right, (3 gunsmiths screwed up!) I've decided to leave 1911's to the 3 or 4 experts in the USA who really understand them.  Problems included a lagged out barrel that nobody noticed - resulted in zero accuracy - incorrect recoil spring for the combination of 38 Super and alloy frame - Wilson magazines that jammed with the advertised 10 rounds, but never with only 9 - and a botched trigger job.

So now I'm eager to learn all the ways to screw up an AK.

If we get a response from some more I'll contact you.

I have done about 10 screw builds, I could walk you guys through it. I am not set up to do rivets at this time.

A screw build would be fine for me.  Regardless of the gripes from traditionalists I think the rivets were used because they were cheap, and disassembly wasn't an issue, not for strength or durability.

If you guys are interested let's pick a time and place.  I don't have much room or a garage but I could accommodate a small group 3 or 4 people max. We would have to work outside under a canopy.

Well I just recieved a cordless rivet gun in today. Powerfull little thing. I could accommodate only 3 or 4 and we wouldnt have much fun (no drinking, no food) Its not my place so.....

Also wouldnt it help out that we all picked the same plan to go with rather than showing up with 20 different type of builds. I know nothing at all about AK's but I do know that I would like to have one in my collection.

I'll volunteer my garage - AC, plenty of space, and all.  All I've really got in the way of tools for the project is a table top drill press.
Now I've gotta clean the junk out from the last home improvement mess!

Sounds good JJK308.  I think I have everything else we need. What part of town are you in? All we need now is a day. How about this next Saturday the 20th.

Garage is still packed, moving some stuff out today.  I likely wont be ready this Saturday, but maybe the next one, I hope.
I've still got to get the receivers.  No way I'm gonna try flat bending or hardening myself.

I don't blame you, I tried it twice myself with bad results. Mark Kubes Firearms in Largo has receivers in stock.

Stopped by Mark Kubes yeaterday.  He was pushing the Eubanks receivers.
I was NOT impressed.  Obviously I didn't bring out the micrometer and schematic but the work just looked plain sloppy - slight ripples, rough cuts... just not quality.  And he wanted $95 each.
A gunsmith recommended the Armory receivers sold by Global Trades.  The reviews I've seen of them sound a lot better than the Eubanks.

So, how about a group buy?  Should be about $60 plus fees, depending on options.

Anyone have a dealer who'll do the transfers?  Mine went out of business last year.
