are there any places within reasonable distance that have good hunting, either deer or pig/hog?Everyone I know always goes to the other southern states

Bass Pro Shops has a guy in WPB who guarantees your hunt. No pig, no pay. I'll try to find his name and number for you. One of the guys who works at the BPS gun counter has hunted with this guy and says there's everything from trophy to meat hogs. Plenty of hogs to see in one day.
