It appears Moore Advanced Dynamics (MAD) has re-engineered the MP5 bolt to remove what I consider it's weakest link, the extractor spring.

I read that Battlefield Vegas (@hendersondefense) is running a few in their rentals and so far so good. Does anyone else have any reviews on them. I am on the verge of ordering one for my full auto K, but $479 is a tough pill to swallow an thats a lot o' extractor springs.

New

vs.

Old

Interesting, reminds me of the HK PSG-1 bolt/extractor setup. Hk realized the extractor was an issue for precision shooting and solved it for the PSG-1 sniper rifle.

Looks a LOT like a 23 bolt head.

I love the design.   I'd bite in the mid 2's but not where it's at now.

When you factor in the cost of a new regular bolt head, its only in the mid 2's more expensive.

I simply haven't had enough problems with the original design to warrant the money.

A good idea thats priced itself into oblivion.

Yeah, I'd be interested, but it's priced way too high IMO.  I understand that anything MP-5 ='s a larger price tag but geez.  This is as bad as Franklin Armory's $700+ dollar binary trigger pack...

Give us a break guys.

Would this work with a DJ Getz MP5 clone? Full Size and K.

I've gone through a few extractor springs...

These bolt heads warrant additional cost. The design has been tested above and beyond the normal failure tests. RCM manufactures these bolt heads for MADD. We have worked with them since day one and believe this is the next generation bolt head.

I could do $299 if I hadn't just bought a brand new F Bolt.

Yes they will work with the Getz clones , Battlefield Vegas is running some of our Omega clones and said with the MAD Bolts they just could not be stopped. So we decided to order some in and they are very nicely machined . I think they are going to be listed for 299.00.

If you know where they're $299, please post a link. Inquiring minds want to know?

Dude, the big roller lock dealer says that they're going to list them for $299... it's pretty obvious where you'll want to look for them.

Interesting... Any pics of one of these disassembled? How do you disassemble it? How does the extractor spring fit into the works? Is it a coil spring? Will replacement parts be available?

So many questions...
Link Posted: 6/18/2017 10:27:36 PM EDT
[#21]
The extractor has a US made Spirol Coil Spring that is pressed in from the bolt face. If the picture shows, the pin will expand back out when it passes through both sides of the bolt head and the extractor itself. The exposed  pocket will be radiused on the backside to allow the pin to be punched through if necessary and exit up the ramp created by the radiused pocket.

The link in OP price is down to $329.

So is there going to be a Gen2 of these now with improvements based on BF Vegas?

because the $479 price is ridiculous and insane.

Hell, $329 is a bit ridiculous.

$299 is getting better, but a $199 price tag would be more fitting.

This may sound dumb, yet I have to ask, will these bolts drop in? Any headspace necessary or change of bolt rollers?

And I'm asking specifically for Getz guns. Thanks in Advance

I believe there is always a possibility the Bolt Gap changes but these should be drop in.  My only experience was swapping out an MKE bolt for an F bolt and the gap stayed exactly the same.

At this point, I am going to stay happy with my current German bolt and backup MKE bolt.  Really don't ever see wearing one out, let alone 2.

This isn't about wearing out the bolt, it's about fixing the weakest link in the MP5 platform, the extractor spring. This would also allow people you use steel cased ammo more reliable as well.

My concern would be availability of extractors down the road.

Man, I am trying to convince myself I don't need this thing!

But I agree, this is something H&K should have done instead of the F Bolt, for reliability reasons. In general, everything I own I want to be bump in the night reliable, but after my Z-5P has choked on some 147gr flat points and HP (Mostly 1 mag, although had issues with a German mag as well) I am kinda leaning towards it being a fun/range toy.

Recently it has run my Win Ranger a few mags without hiccups. If I can get through the next 500 rounds trouble free I may consider selling my F bolt and getting one of these.

I own a MAD 33AR myself and its my favorite pseudo assault rifle to shoot even ACOG worthy. Should such a bolt head come out for the 33 series I will probably cave and buy one.

Got the bolt today and installed. Ran a couple of mags through it. It ate everything including the steel cased wolf shit that it normally wouldn't eat at all.

I will go to the range sat AM and run it through the paces. So far though, I am impressed.

It's pretty hard to take a gun as old as the MP5 and make it better like this, but these guys really did it. I've shot their entire line of guns at their facility and they make some seriously great full autos.
Their guns outran HKs demos at shot last year. Thats not a joke. That actually happened.

It was a closed range day pre-SHOT for LE and .mil demos. It was before they officially released the new bolt head. They were in the guns already but none of the shooters knew it.
The HK rep asked them what they were doing to get the guns to run so well That's how you know you've got a winning idea.

Well I managed to put over 700 rounds mostly full auto with the new bolt on Saturday.

Ammo used was mostly wolf, tula, Prvi, and some federal brass.

The gun ran great, with only a 5'ish stove pipes. Simple charging and shaking the casing out.

I am impressed and would highly recommend one of these if you do a lot of shooting or have a trigger pack.

Put another 200 rounds through it this evening, all FA wolf steel cased with only 1 failure.

Well it works if thats what you are asking.

I had a few light primer strikes on a different full auto gun, but thats the only malfunctions I have seen with it.
