I am having a heck of a time trying to take the front sight assembly off of my Umarex HK MP5 A5 .22. I have a replacement Euro spec barrel shroud for an SBR project, but I can't figure out how to remove the existing one.
Has anyone figured this out how to remove the front sight assembly from the cocking handle tube?
The cocking handle tube has a bracket on it (which is where the retaining pin for the forearm grip is inserted), and the bottom of the bracket has a tab fits into a slot on the top of the barrel shroud. If it wasn't for the tab, the barrel shroud would slide right out of the bottom of the front sight assembly.
On the parts diagram, the front sight assembly appears one solid forged piece, but it doesn't show how the front sight assembly attaches to the cocking tube. I removed the cocking lever and bar from the tube, and it looks like there may be some kind of a plug at the end of the cocking tube where it attaches to the sight. There could be a hex nut in the middle of the plug, but it looks more like a rivet.
The rest of this rifle came apart very easily, and I want to use brute force as a last resort. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
