HK  demilled kit    $2300  GB
SW receiver         $200
Labor and finish   $ 850
+ shipping and us parts so I estimated the total cost

someone let me know if these prices are off,  they are the only ones I know of.

I had my hands on an older  Vector 5/40 and really found it lacking.  I was satisfied with the 9mm clone after changing out my bolt to a german one, but the 40 cal is another animal.
Anyone have an alternative somewhere in the middle of the price range that runs out of the box?

My Vector was 1500.  It jammed after the first mag, so I swapped out the extractor, ejector, and the two assoicated springs.

I noticed the locking piece was a Series 80, from the 9mm PDW, which Vector said they ground down to work.  Not too reassuring, so I got a 10 mm high.

So far, it's about 300 bucks in parts, and it runs fine now.  But the accuracy sucks (foot groups at 50 yards) so it's off to get worked on by Turner Fabrications.  Another 250.

I'll have a little over 2 grand in it once done.  If it shoot accuratly, then I'm 1500 lower than the amount you listed.  If not, then it's off to the chopping block.

As for if 3500 is a lot/too much for a running, effective MP5/40 or 10, only the owner can say.  Does it do anything a $1000 AR does?  Not really.  But it's neat to have and play with.  Plus a 10mm round would really ruin someone's day.  I wanted one from back in the 80's when they came out for the FBI just before the gun ban put the breaks on HK selling any to the civy market.  A SBR model would be a great house cleaner, and not have either the flash and blast of the AR's, or need a suppressor taking the lenght back to rifle size.

I'm wrestling with the same issues concerning my 10mm clone right now. It appears the only way top make it run right in FA is by installing a complete HK BCG. That's $1000 since I yet to find any used ones available. Add in a few other HK pieces and that investment grows to about $2800.

Then I have this nagging thought stuck in the back dark recesses of my mind that says I should sell the 10mm clone and a few other things and scrape up the coin to buy a MP5/10 that's built from a 10mm kit front end grafted onto a HK94 receiver!

So i guess I'm not the one to ask if there's a middle ground to this madness. You're correct about the 40 cal gun being a different breed altogether & I feel your pain.

Are you talking about taking a real hk94 gun and doing that cut around the serial number thing  and jigsaw together a mp5/10 clone from a demilled kit ?
If you are then you are at the holy grail aren't ya?  Chopping down a $4000 gun and adding $2000 in parts and then  the labor, THAT'S EXTREME................

That would be it. Ive seen it done quite a few times and as long as the builder knows what the fuck they are doing it will come out looking pretty much perfect

my mind is drawing a blank why you you chop up a gun like that.  Maybe it's because I am already thinking like a communist in my state.

Is it to have an all german gun?   Or does it have to do with F/A?

Adam has the a2 kit at $1800 .   Those that are allowed to have the A3 kits can get them for $2000
Yay,  I get to save $500,  now we are only down to $3000.     Sighhhhhh!

It's basically to end up with a gun that's in spec and works right. While most 9mm clones are pretty easy to trouble shoot the 40 cal's can be a bitch. I blame it on that funky ejector lever with a 90° tip. Most of my issues centered around the ejector jamming under the bolt, it didn't enter the slot at the proper point in the recoil cycle. Timing is everything with them when running full auto.

I'm VERY happy with mine. Got some good trigger time on it this weekend.  I'm a big fan of the BHO.
RDTS did my builds using 94 doner guns and demilled FBI parts kits. Cheap they are not but a great investment gun they are.
I also did one in a .40 SD. MUCH more quiet then the 9mm SD

I have one but my kit was around 1300 and I had Ghillie bear built it for me.  It feels completed different that a MP5 9mm in FA.  I would do it again,
Jeff

when  and where did you buy your kit?    How much do you have into it with the compliance parts?  Thanks

Lemme help brother Jeff out here.

He has no compliance parts in his build because it's a pistol. He damn near stole the MP5/40 parts kit for a mere $1300, yeah I said it, and he should still feel guilty about it to this day! (but he did hook me up on some used 40 cal HK mags at an insanely low price)

I think Ghillie charges around $650 to build these but don't quote me on that.

It runs pretty good in FA but Jeff can't shoot it right now because (insert evil laugh track here) I have the German BCG outta his gun sitting in my garage.
Sad when you have to bum parts off your buddy in order to shoot your own gun huh.

I have the chance to buy an MP5/40SD, but I've yet to pull the trigger on it. I'd really like to get it, seems like fun, but damn .40 is expensive. I don't have any stock in it either. How hard are the mags to get for them? I mean, I can get MP5 mags from any number of suppliers being brought into the country, but 40S&W I've only seen from like HKparts.net

You think that forty is hard on the wallet try the 10mm - ouch! That's why I'm a caster & reloader.
Gordon Miller also has the 40 cal mags, he goes by "HK Specialist".

how's the recoil on the 10mm?  No one seems to talk about the 10mm mp5's .

With full house loads the 10mm will really push you around. In full auto I think it's more difficult to hold down than say a 53.
The again I'm a scrawny 180 lb fella and some of my uber cheap cast lead loads clock over 1400 FPS outta the MP5/10.
On the other hand if you load sedate plinking ammo that runs with the LO impulse LP it's not much more of a push than full power 9mm.

I'm a huge 10mm fan and run a sear in full size and K Coharie Mp5s.  F/A 10mm in a subgun is fabulous!  I think it's the best combination of power and weight.  Most 9mm subguns seem way too big and heavy for the caliber to me and the 10mm balances this out better.  The guns are still very controllable.

Yeah, either 10mm or .40, I haven't stepped up to the plate yet. I think they are neat, maybe some day I'll get one, but I'd have to save enough to be able to order a couple of cases of 40S&W to go with it.

Gordon Miller just had a sale on them for about $55 each NIW.

Dammit Kevin.................
Give up the 40 Cal gun and stick with the 9mm.
By the time you get done tinkering and modding that thing to make it work and still be in compliance with the NY shit, you'll be broke!!!

Already broke,  but won't be satisfied until   I  try every clone there is.  The SD may be a problem,  I guess I will have to move  to Pennsylvania

That's not to bad, seeing as MP5 mags go for $60+ new.

I bought a kit / receiver from Special Weapons, and had it custom built in 10mm.

It was a money pit waiting to happen. The builder pretty much recommended  to replace most of the parts with real HK, because the SW were out of spec.

Combined with it being tempermental with ammo, I sold it.

I lucked out on this V89-40, bought it for $780 in pistol form from a disgruntled owner who couldn't get it to work. I found the bolt head to be out of spec, so $400 later it works like it should. The .40 MP5s shoot very nicely. So, for $1200 + $200 tax stamp I have myself a functioning MP5/40 clone SBR. It will really scream when my Fleming sear gets out of jail.

25m off hand:
