The bolt carrier trip lever area has a slot machined completely through it. I'm sure someone can post pictures...

The FA trigger pack will not work at all (in either FA or SA) with a SA carrier. That groove keeps the carrier from pushing down on the trip lever, so that the sear catch never gets engaged. Therefore the sear catch never releases the hammer.
