Hello everyone,
I just bought this new to me HK SP-89 from a women whos husband died recently(God rest his soul). She said he bought it for $2,500 and that is what she sold it to me for.
It seems to be in excellent shape but I had several questions for the HK experts on here as I'm new to this type of platform.

My 1st question is does anyone know of a link to a website on how to take apart(which I figured out) and how to put back together(which I now have to do). The gun did not come with an owners manuel. I need help with the bolt and don't want to force it.

My 2nd question is the gun came with a "Hk pulse beam model 100 laser sight" with no instructions. How do you zero it and adjust the aim? Here is a picture of it on the gun:

The original owner had it all taped up with electrical tape which I removed when I cleaned her up. I noticed when the tape was off the laser was not really secured and kind of flopped a bit away from the hand grip. How do you properly attach the laser the the gun? Here is another shot:


My 3rd question is it is unknown how many rounds have been fired through this gun. Here are several pictures of the different parts. Can you tell how much wear these have on them? To me they look like not much wear has occured:






4th question is the trigger on this gun looks different then all the other SP-89's I looked at. Is this an antermarket trigger:

The trigger feels like it has been worked. It has almost zero take up and breaks clean at 4 or 5 lbs. It feels like my trigger on my PTR that Bill Springfield did for me. Never having played with one of these is this the stock trigger of a custom job? Here is the inside of the trigger group:


Question 5 is I think I may be missing a piece. When I removed the laser there is now a hole above the end of the barrel. What is this piece called and where can I get a new one? Can I shoot the gun with out it? I plan not to use the laser till I get the iron sights diled in properly:


Question 6. Is this piece stock or aftermarket:

It looks like a buffer on the end of the piece that goes on the end of the reciever.

Question 7. On the inside of the hand grip is discolored. It look like heat did this. Is this normal or did it get to hot?


And last but not least where is the best place to buy replacemet and back up parts? I need to find a few 30 round curved mags and a new forarm grip and a good sling.

Can't wait to test her out! She is by far the most expensive gun I have ever bought! I had to have it though! Always wanted an MP-5 and this being a real HK is probibly the closest I'll get! Man I hope she functions properly.

Since all HK sheet metal guns are basically the same, here's an HK94 manual that should help.

5) The discoloration is from lack of cleaning

Ok all parts as pictured are cleaned 100%.
The grips willnot come any cleaner. Is there anything I can do to get them back to original. The discoloration is under the barrel so you can not see it. Did this make the plastic brittle? Should it be replaced?

Where might I find out about the laser? I need to know how it is mounter solid with out the need for tape and how to adjust the aiming?

I don't think the discoloration effects the structural integrity of the piece. In fact, after thinking more about it, it may have been some type of cleaning solution that initially caused it.

I'm the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" kinda guy, but if you want to replace it, by all means do so. I just don't feel it warrants replacing.

Does the laser have the mounting collar (boxed in red) on it?

That one would be a good candidate for a MP5K SBR.

Your forgeting the part that the gun is not complete, used, and has no box.  I think it was a fair price.

I agree.  Six months ago I paid $2900 for a fairly well used SP89 with the same LASER, an HK mp5K harness, and three HK-marked mags.  I bought it from an FFL/SOT.  He paid a fair market price, albeit on the lower end, but fair nonetheless.

Remember, this gun originally sold for $900.00.

It is no longer imported, so the price might be higher due to the law of supply and demand.

In this case the seller sets the price. If the seller doesn't know what the market value is, it's not the buyer's duty to imform the seller.

They are a very well respected company and many HK owners have used them.  They did the trigger on my HK SR9 just like yours and it is very smooth.

I think you got a smoking deal on your SP89.  I bought mine 8 years ago, used, with no manual or laser for $3450.  If I could find them for $2500 I would buy two more.

I had her double check her asking price and a local gun dealer confirmed it for her. She said she just wanted what he paid for it.

What would you say should have been a fair price in todays market for this gun?

I have "FOUND" a NEW IN BOX SP-89, and am wondering what a "FAIR" price on it might be....

ALSO.....Someone above mentioned that this would be a good candidate for an MP-5 conversion....

Not a bad price; you should either keep it stock (collectible value) or convert it into an SBR (add MP5K foregrip, maybe even replace the grip for a Navy Ambi-Grp and install a paddle mag release and maybe a barrel with the 3 lug muzzle).

I'd go with the first option.

Its not collectable because its used, missing parts, and has no box.

Classic TARD mentality that I have to deal with everyday.  

I collect Colt rifles and pistols and everday I have someone comming to me wanting to sell me their gun and telling me how collectable it is but they just couldn't save their box and paperwork.

+1 that if Colorado allows Class III I would be very tempted to buy a transferrable auto sear and turn it into an MP5k.  I have no idea what sears are going for now but I suspect they are expensive...
