I have a PTR 91 w/ HK wide forend and bipod and I can't get over how heavy this rifle seems at the muzzle end...seems like the balance is all off. I'm sure most of the weight comes from the heavy barrel vs. the tapered barrel found in original HK's. So, what's the difference in weight between these two?

I haven't check the scale(don't own one) but I would guess my PTR91k is about 1lb heavier than my HK91.

I have the HK listed as 9.7 pounds empty.  According to the JLD site, the PTR-91 has an empty weight of  9.17 lbs.  I weighed my PTR-91KP a few weeks ago, and I seem to remember it weighing 11 lbs fully loaded.

Accounting for the magazine in the HK91, they're actually about the same weight.

You can really lighten up the PTR with their
aluminum forearm.

It weighs around half of what the wide forearm does.

Even with the JLD tactical forearm ,one 6.5 inch JLD Rail,
and a Tango Down Vertical grip the JLD forearm is
STILL ligher than the original HK Wide Forearm.

That savings in weight (even with the grip) ,is why
I switched mine over.

I traded the Classic HK look for something that was more
practical for me to shoot.

Really helped my standing shots accuracy ,
and I didn't get tired as fast.
Especially my left wrist and lower arm.

Since the pic was taken I have moved the rail back to take up the rearmost threaded hole on the handguard and moved the folding grip back too. Feels more natural now. Mine came with the hg and two other rails but I took the side rails off. The left one was too abrasive when cocking the gun, right one did nothing.

That's pretty much what I thought.

I would have rather had a single 11 inch rail than
those 3 -6.5 inch rails.

As you said ,cocking handle side gets in the way ,and
I don't use the other side .

I could see a 3 inch on the right for a Surefire light,
but I don't want one on mine anyway.

The only other thing I might want on mine is a quick
detach bipod,that's why I though about an 11 inch rail.

Currently, my bottom rail is set all the way to the last screw
towards the magwell.
My Vertical grip is locked on right over that scew.

That's where it feels natural for me,and makes the rifle feel the lightest.

Eventually ,I want an Eotech on a B&T (or copy) mount.

If I ever get caught up on $$$$ !
