Looking for opinions on these two options. Basic style a2 with a full length barrel. I had a crap 91 alum rec. clone that I traded, but was fun when it worked. Please suggest and discuss. Pics if you got them.

Ive got a V-93 and while I really think its apples to oranges when compared to a 308, I love mine.  I shoot it more than my AR.   Its accurate, and the recoil is straight back, allowing for easy double taps.

She is a little ammo snesitive.  It runs like a champ on Remington UMC and XM193, but occasionaly chokes on WWB.   I found out last weekend that it doubles on russian ammo, no idea why.   but it was kinda cool.

Here she is hangin out with some of her safe mates:

Based on the price of mags; $30-40 for 93mags vs $1-10 for 91mags, I vote JLD 91

The JLD's are said to have recoil a tad sharper then the 91 its copies.  Having owned a Cetme in 308 and the V53, I can say that the .223 HK clones are much funner to shoot.  Less recoil, quicker follow up shots, etc.  I vote V93.

I found just the oposite, my PTR 91KP(A3 stock) had less recoil than a HK91 w/A2 stock........I found it rather odd, just the oposite of what I expected.

I own both a JLD PTR-91 and an HK-93.  I used to own a V-93 but I traded it for an SL-8 when I got the real HK-93.  I think the 91 and the 93 both serve a purpose, I enjoy shooting them both.  I have the 91 outfited with a bipod and scope and I have an Eotech on the 93.  I shoot the 93 much more than the 91, I like the size and weight of the 93 better than the 91.

As for the quality ... I think the JLD is probably a closer match to the real HK.  The PTR-91 is made on real HK tooling purchased in 2003 from Portugal.  The Vector 93 is well made but the receivers are a bit out of spec and stocks fit pretty tightly.  I had to use a rubber mallet to get the stock off and on.

I'd go with the JDL PTR.

(1) Excellent Price on the rifle.  - Most well under $900 / -Vectors cost more!
(2) Quality of Construction is Excellent - Fully on Par with My HK91
(3)  Mags are plentyful and affordable (bought 100 for $100!!!) / 93 mags $30 and up Up UP!!
(4) 7.62 NATO Power - (Need I say more!)
(5) 7.62 NATO Reliablity - (the HK big bores seem to keep on chugging no matter what)
(6) 7.62 NATO Versitility - (Want to hunt a bear with a .223??)

IF you want best of both worlds, get a "K" with the shorter 16" bbl - feel of 93 - Power of 91!

I'd go with a V-51!

One of these days I will do just that!

I already have a PTR91K (great rifle). My next purchase is a Vector V93. My reasons...I use the PTR to shoot HeMan class in IPSC 3-gun but at some of the smaller matches in my area I don't have anyone else shooting in my class so I shoot in Limited (against lighter recoiling AR15s).  With the V93 I get the same great HK action shooting a lighter (and slightly cheaper) bullet. I considered getting an AR like everyone else, but I think I'd do better with the the V93 due to familiarity with the platform (its also more reliable and has 40 round mags that actually work).

Tough choice deciding between JLD or Vector as they are both quality arms. You should look at your needs and decide between 308 or 223 then base your decision on that. My "needs" dictated both!

Be aware that your V-93 may have some reliabilty problems when new.  Mine did and there are others here who also had some ejection and extraction problems.  I had Vector replace the extractor and spring and the gun seems to be 100%, although I still have a built-in mistrust of anything remotely associated with SW and T. Bailey.  Hopefully time (and rounds downrange) will change my feelings.

Get them both  I got the PTR-91 about a year ago and liked the HK design so I figured I would add one to my 5.56 collection.  Both are great at the range, but both are picky about ammo.  I usually run Lake City though both, and that works without a problem.  With some of the hunting ammo, like Remington Lokt-Core, I get FTF and FTE's.  Otherwise I have had no problems with either weapon.

Nice!  After  seeing that picture, I think my PTR is feeling lonely...

If I had to pick only one to start with though it would be the big brother (91)!

Nice price.  What about with a collapsing stock?  Did Vector get the issues with the original collapsing stocks fixed?

Damn....there seems to be a shortage of A3 stocks across the board...unless you want to pay $400+ for one.
