[ARCHIVED THREAD] - What's the consensus of the Springfield aluminum cast receiver HK clone?

I haven't even had the chance to shoot my new PTR91 yet and an old friend calls me up
with one like new in box. Says he has shot less than 50 rounds through it.
I know that they aren't too pretty but, I'm interested.
If it is as described, what should be a fair price for it?
Anything I need to know about these?

They are glued together. There is no other way to attach the steel trunion to the alum receiver.

Stay away.

Some people love theirs.

But as mentioned, the way they're put together certainly doesn't sprout any confidence. I've heard about these guns shooting loose and not hold their accuracy after a while.

Bulky and heavy.

you also don't get the freefloating tube.

And it's just plain ugly.

Going price seems to be $400 and less. I would use the money towards another JLD instead. Resale value is horrible.

I can't think of one good reason to pay own one.

I give $100.00 for the parts and make the receiver a door stop.

you should see the hesse cast ones....

one has been sitting at a dealer in anchorage for at least 4 years.

As I understand it, the pinning came as a response by SA to failure of the epoxy. The pin holes would elongate and SA started to swap out the guns for M1A's as a warranty concession.

I would rekon if you had one of the guns today, you might be able to get SA to do just that. It may be worth it to call with the SN# and complain, nicely of course, about the safety blah blah and possibly get SA to swap it for an M1A or a 1911.

Buy the gun for a steal and then get a M1A on the chizzeep.
