hello!
the fal of my friend is badly maintained...and the muzzle end is heavily corroded and the crowning is gone...
is it OK to have it cut "ala carbine" version of DSA to achieve improved accuracy?
what about gas port? does it need modifiecation too?
my friend lives in the phils. BTW  :->

tnx in advance
paltik

Cutting a standard 21" barrel down to 18" or 16" shouldn't cause any problems or require any changes to the gas system. Remember that the gas system on the FAL is adjustable.

Port dia on 21in bbl's should be about .093. When I trim bbl length I open port to .116 (size of Congo bbl's). Depending on condition of gas system (ie wear/leaks--bare muzzle/muzzle brk installed) you may have to open port...

If you go 16" you probably should open the gas port. I don't know if you need to for 18".

When I cut my barrel to 18" I had to open the gas port 1 setting.

All of my FAL's are 21 inches. But most of the guys I know with carbines (16") have to open up the gas port to get them to run. Stock size is .096". The next step up is .116". If it doesn't run there go to .125" but don't go any larer because if it won't run there you have a leak somewhere or the gas piston is too small in diameter.

Are there any accuracy difference between your 21 inch barrel and your buddy's carbine ?
