Also considering an SBR ak 47, sig 556 sbr etc. I want it to be short and powerful. I wonder if the powder would burn fully in an 11 inch barrel. Anyone know if this would actually run good for defenseive use? The powder will not burn fully in a 11 inch barrel, it will be very loud and have a bright flash. The flash *might* be reduced with a SMith ENterprise Vortex flash hider, but any way you cut it the unburnt powder is wasted energy coming out of the muzzle. I would recommend at least a 16" barrel, if you need compact a folding stock will help for storage/transport. If you want a really compact 308 the RFB is likely the way to go. Isn't this you once-a-month survivalist question?

I have to ask...why? If you need something that compact buy a 5.56 weapon. Most countries that adopted the FAL stuck with the 21 inch barrel, even in the para version, for a reason...

I have a V51 with an 11" barrel and it is a flame thrower. My Para with the 16" is much less vicious. Have a YHM Phantom MB on it.

Shortest barrel that I would use on a FAL is 18 inches.

If I was going to go the SBR route it would never be with a .308.

So I should stay away from the .308 for an SBR? I want a max length of my rifle to be 23-24 inches. Should I go with a 7.62x39 or 5.56?

I have an 8.5" barreled FAL that I SBR'd. I wouldn't want to get hit with it at any range, despite the flash of unburnt powder at the muzzle. With the stock extended, it's about the same length as my RFB.

24" is a tall order. Even my SBR AR15 with a 7.5" barrel was longer than that.
I think you need a 7.62x39mm Krink underfolder or sidefolder for the ultimate bullet mass/size ratio. |
